Buying a car vs commercial vehicle for tax

I'm a sole trader (wedding videographer) looking for a used vehicle for work.

    My question is:

Are there any tax benefits to buying a commercial vehicle over a private car and using that for work.

I know the motor tax is generally less but I'm more concerned with my ability to claim vehicle expenses.

    Thanks in advance!

A commercial vehicle would only really be useful to you if you are VAT registered, otherwise you can't get it ex vat which kind of defeats the purpose.

You'll be able to allow the motoring expenses based on your business mileage against your sole trader income regardless of what type of vehicle you do it in.
