What to do after degree

I am currently completing an Honours UCD business degree (Accounting Stream)in the evenings (through IPA). I am working as an accounts administrator and have an accounts technicians qualification also (will have the required 2 years work experience this year for full membership)

I have a lot of sole responsibility in my current position but no opportunity for progression. So I am wondering what my options are once I finish the degree I would like to progress but would I have to start at graduate level and the potential loss of 8-10K a year to be a trainee.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

It depends on your long time plan? Do you want to be an accountant?

Taking an initial hit of 8-10k on salary is very temporary. You would get paid study leave and tuition, which is worth a lot in €. You would receive pay increases after each exam sitting.

Thanks for your reply yes I would like to become a full accountant. Would I get a higher salary for having full cap 1 exemptions and an accounting technician qualification and couple years experience?

Unlikely, as most will have cap1 and some cap2.
You have to take the short term hit to progress sometimes

Look into doing ACCA or CIMA. You may be able to qualify as an accountant while continuing to work in your present position.

Thanks for the replies! The size of the drop in salary I would have to factor in as I also have a young child to support! I have thought of that SBwife but I wouldn't have the mentoring or get the kind of experience I need to qualify where I am!
