fiat punto 2004 Car key snapped

Hey, as the title suggest, my fiat punto car key broke this morning. It's not stuck in the door or anything like that. The car door is also open, so i can get into the car. As far as I can tell, there is no electronics in the key itself. It doesn't remotely open the door or anything, it's just a piece of rubber on the end…

Hey, as the title suggest, my fiat punto car key broke this morning. It's not stuck in the door or anything like that. The car door is also open, so i can get into the car.

As far as I can tell, there is no electronics in the key itself. It doesn't remotely open the door or anything, it's just a piece of rubber on the end of the key. Also,I have the key code at home, if that's required.

I got a quote of ballpark €200 to get this fixed. Is there a cheaper alternative? Could I give the two pieces of the key to a lock smith and have him cut me a new one?

In case this thread turns up in anyone's search results. Autokey on the Naas road will fix up the key for you for €50. Far better alternative...

There's electronics in the key alright, you just can't see it. It's a passive RFID transmitter and you'll need to get it coded with the master key.
