River Liffey madcap event 1980's?

    Does anyone remember or have any information on an event that took place at O'Connell bridge in Dublin in the 1980's? I vaguely remember competitors using all kinds of winged and wheeled 'inventions' to go along a gangplank and see how far they could travel, the there was also a prize for the most original invention, or maybe it was just a dream...:)

    I meant to put this into All Things Retro but I'll let it run here.

    it wasn't a dream though I think it was the 90's though not 100% on that. Not sure exactly what it was but it preceded the Red Bull version of the same kind of event, think they call it flutag
