wp.org - cannot access .php pages on dashboard

    Folks,
    I've a 4yo website built on wordpress.org.
    Am not a techie and the builder has long since left the country.
    I am being prompted that "WordPress 4.1 is available! Please update now."
    But cannot access the item :
    http://xxx.com/wp-admin/update-core.php
    or the following to update plugins :
    http://xxx.com/wp-admin/plugins.php
    On both, I just get a white screen.
    What can I do please ?

    There could be several reasons especially if the site has not been updated in a while.
    Could possibly take longer doing 20 questions here than it takes to fix it.
    PM me the details and I will have a quick look
