    As the title says...

Some excellent fares with good availability. For example, Bangkok from €553 return, Beijing €558 etc.

Sale runs until Friday 16th for travel until June 10th.

At €469 Bombay is circa €100-200 cheaper than other Indian cities and is in fact a fiver cheaper than Dubai!

I've been looking for flights to Asia for some time, Kayak.com is the best. It will search a few flights and give you the cheapest, generally booking via the emirates website isn't the cheapest option.

Also those feature fares typically get pushed out - so the travel dates move and the book by dates moves. They aren't anything that special and those feature fares have been around for some time. The price might go down, due to the price of oil plummeting between the 20th of December (ish) when this was put online and now.

I can't recommend this site more for cheap flights: http://www.secretflying.com/euro-deals/

I am waiting to see if Etihad will drop their prices in response to this offer! I hope they do!

I use kayak too and if the cheapest fare is Emirates I use their website to book it as it's easier to manage afterwards.

As someone who flies to Asia regularly I can tell you that those are good fares. Can you post some lower fares?

Secret Flying is irrelevant if you have to be someplace at a specific time.

Prices might well go down, they might go up. If I see a price I'm happy with I book it.

In any case I posted this as it wasn't posted before and someone might find a flight that suits them. Last time I checked that's what BA was for.

I think Etihad might have had a sale first?

You can fly with Turkish Airlines to mumbai for €380 all year long according to http://2015holidays.com so these emirates sales prices are a bit crap, they seem to be on half the year like DFS shifting overpriced sofas. Emirates is a good airline but i dont like any company teeling me im getting a half price bargain when its that price everywhere else, or maybe even cheaper. I prefer Turkish airlines to etihad, but its a close call with emirates... 80 quid in my pocket makes the decision easy though hahaha

Bombay is called Mumbai now, although the airport is still BOM, Bombai is what the english renamed mumbai. With derry in mind, its prob best to use its real name mumbai, so we dont upset any locals.

Did india ever sort out its bull* visa on arrival? Why the hell I have to pay them a visa I have no idea, I can visit almost all of the rest of the world without one and you would think after I filled in the exact same form with exactly the same information as the last few times, hey would just let me in and stop ripping me off with a retarded visa fee.

Hmmm.... I am not advocating anything here but do Indians get visa on arrival in Ireland? Most of these things works reciprocally. Although I will be happy to get visa on arrival in India but every country has their own set of rules. Yes they have introduced visa on arrival for certain countries (I know because US colleagues frequently travel there) and Ireland is on cards but you cant really demand it. I don't know how much it costs for Irish visa but if you try to find it, my guess it will be more or less the same.

    Visa to Ireland:

Standard non-refundable visa application processing fees are:

    Single Journey Visa: €60
    Multi Journey Visa: €100
    Transit Visa: €15

I am not sure if this is right but found it on quick google search:

    http://www.indianembassy.ie/eoi.php?id=VisaFees

Tourist Visa Valid for upto 6 months (single/double/multiple entries) -> €52

It looks like the visa fee is more for UK passport holders

Tourist Valid for upto 6 months (single/double/multiple entries) -> €154

I would say the charges are comparative.

I picked up a deal to Bangkok with emirates at €650. The €553 ticket had huge layover times in Dubai. My flight has 1hr 45min going over and 6hrs coming home.

Anyone fly with emirates? How are they? Do they have wifi during the flight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭coldfire1x

Dont think they have wifi but their enternainment system is pretty good. In flight service is decent as well.

There is wifi, but you have to pay and it's quite expensive.

In flight entertainment is very good though

Was it not the Portugese who named the city Bombai?

    Bom baim meaning 'good bay'.

You'll offend no one by referring to the city as Bombay btw. Given the sheer ethnic / linguistic diversity that's always been such a pronounced feature of the place, you'll find how locals colloquially refer to the city is considerably more nuanced than it being all about a reaffirmation of Indian identity over its colonial past.

Yes it looks like Free WIFI is a few years away yet.

I always enjoyed flying with Etihad they're my favourite airline. I'm expecting pretty much the same experience with Emirates

There's free WiFi in Business Class on some routes and it's reasonably priced after the free allowance.

Their entertainment system is excellent - they even have "live" sports. Economy from Dublin to Dubai isn't great - the seat layout is 3-4-3 which is definitely not ideal. If you're on an A380 from Dubai to Bangkok it's a huge improvement.

Dubai is a much better airport than Abu Dhabi for a layover.

Service is pretty good - the only time I've had bad service was from Irish staff who seemed more interested in talking about the night before in Dicey's than doing any work.
