Open road vs. Closed road races

    Hi guys.

So, I know this probably seems like a stupid question to all the vets out there, but I've done some searching both here and on Cycling Ireland and I can't actually find an answer to my question. Are the majority of Irish road races on open or closed roads? The chances of me doing more than a handful of races this year are very slim, I'll probably (read - hopefully) just do a few sportives and a bit of racing at Sundrive. Basically I want to find out if I take out a Limited Competition licences, how much am I limiting myself in terms of the races I can choose to enter? Are most races on open roads or closed roads, or is it about even?

    Thanks

Pretty much all road races take place on open roads. Sometimes for Open races the Gardai may help by managing traffic on the circuit, but that's often the exception rather than the rule

LC licences permit Club League racing (none of which, AFAIK, currently takes place on closed roads)

A few of the Kildare/Laois/Carlow league races take place at Mondello, there is also the open Mondello league midweek evenings during the season.

On open roads but marshalled as in one would hope that the vast majority of motorists would be made aware (by marshalls) that a race was taking place.

With an LC licence you won't be able to race any open races after April. Full competition licence holders only.
