So I'm thinking of buying a small van for work, have a rough 5k budget. Was thinking of a 05/06 1.9tdi caddy as have heard good things but im also considering a 1.7 Citi Astra van as they are meant to be very economical and I could either move up in years or get a 06 one cheaper.. Just wondering what people opinions are on both. Any down sides?? Ride quality etc.. Mainly I'd just be carrying small tools etc, supplies etc.. Heaviest thing would prob be a generator or similar..

I suppose either are decent once you get a well minded example. Personally I'd try and get the newer model astra h which was out around 06-07 I had one a 08 with the 1.3 cdti engine and it was grand but a bit on the low power side specially with a load. They are a nice van tbh and quite roomy in the back assuming your getting the longer version rather than car/van hatchback version.

The caddy well I think as small vans go they are the best Id prefer them to a berlingo/ connect/ partner etc. I suppose depending on your work the caddy might have a better back load space higher roof, side door, you can shelve it out.

In terms on economy there would be very little in it but the astra would have the edge I recon.

Yeah I was thinking the Astra would have the edge economy wise alright. Was thinking of the longer 1.7 version as opposed to the car type. The caddy might be a better bet but I'm just wondering from a driving point of view would the Astra feel more like a car maybe? Also would they be able to handle limited weight,, e.g a generator or possibly a whacker from time to time??
