Skoda brake issue

    hi,

i'm looking at buying an 04 Skoda Fabia 1.2 saloon. I went to see one the other day and all was fine except for an issue when I hit the brakes.
When i got down about halfway on the brake I could feel a vibration coming up through my foot. I know that with ABS this happens when you brake hard but this was just regular braking, no sudden stops.
It felt like ABS but it was like it was kicking in too soon.
Anyone have any idea if this is normal with these cars or if there is an issue would you know what it is?

    thanks

Was the surface loose gravel or mud when you were stopping? When you started the car could you see the ABS light before ignition?

it was a tarmac road, no loose gravel around. TBH I didn't notice the ABS light when I started it, no lights stayed on anyway when it started. It only passed the NCT the week before Christmas and it's been sitting up since then, could it be dirt or something on the pads because it hasn't been used?

Discs are more then likely needing replacement.

If the discs aren't warped, and abs light not on (make sure it somes on and goes off appropriately or someone may have taken out the bulb.

With any car thats been idle you'll have rust and pitting on the drums and discs where the pads/shoes were resting, it may wear away quickly if its not idle too long, if its bad though your pads can disintegrate.

If the steering wheel was vibrating under braking it's a warped disc

Maybe check your tyres ? Turn them left and right and check the inside of the tyre on each ?

Does that gen fabia even have ABS....the lower spec'd cars didn't as far as I know....but I believe there was a change to the spec of those cars around that time.

there may be an issue with an abs sensor, rusted abs rings or warped discs

Umusual to see a saloon in basic spec. Saloons and estates from 2003 all came with the better engine. Anyway easy to check under the bonnet for abs or check the build sticker in the boot.

I wouldn't buy it without having it scanned
