2007 VW Jetta - slow seatbelt retraction - will it pass the NCT?

    Hi,

I have an NCT booking for during the week but yesterday morning when I went out to the car I noticed an issue had arisen with the driver's seatbelt. Basically it retracts fine for the most part but when it's trying to retract the last foot or two (as it reaches/passes the right shoulder of the driver's seat) it slows down/stops and just sort of hangs, limp. If I give it a gentle feed upwards it retracts, albeit without any real strength. It's almost like there's a spring that isn't tightly wound enough, sort of like with roller blinds where they're slow to spring up (I know that's not the issue, it's just the best analogy I can make).

Firstly, will it fail the NCT on that, as there's no point in bringing it in without the work having been done first if so?

Secondly, what sort of price am I looking to fix it?

    Thanks.

Pull the belt out fully, wipe it with a clean cloth and spray a little silicon on to it, both sides. Usually does the job.

Sorry to be a bit dim, but do you mean silicon lubricant (e.g. http://www.halfords.ie/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/lubricating-penetrating-oil/3-in-one-professional-silicone-spray-lubricant-400ml)?

Pledge or mister sheen work very well on this problem, just look in were the belt retracts to make sure the belt is not twisted as this can cause this problem also
