Hi was just looking for some advice on getting a start in welding. Looking at going through FAS. Just wondering can I go straight into "Coded Welding" or so I have to start with just "Welding".

My cousin has is a pipe fitter fr years and he has told me that you can do coded welding and then go straight into the workplace try get sponsorship with a company and start earning decent money. I've chose welding out of interest and it seems there is plenty of career opportunitys all over the world.

Just looking for advice on every aspect as its a great decision and I want to apply for FAS in cork city soon.

Sorry for being so vague but literally looking for all the advice I can get.

    Thanks.

Fas or solas would be a good starting point.
They'll advise you best way to start out.

Australia had a working phone network last time I visited :-)

You might try Skype, it's a lot cheaper.

You will have to start with the basic welding course. You only then can go on to do coded welding after you have learned how to weld.

Im doing the coded pipe in cork at the minute,
finished the basic course last year, waited a few months, passed the test and got into the intermediate welding course in cetb cork a few months later, then got a place on the coded pipe in cork.
Id strongly advise you to take the same route, ie Basic/intermediate/Pipe.
You haven't a hope of getting into the pipe course without some welding experience under the belt,( in particular Smaw Vertical plate welding as its the entrance exam for the pipe (which is covered in the intermediate course) but if you work through the Basic and intermediate, show the instructors that your serious about learning, work hard at it, keep the head down, show up every day on time and don't piss anyone off then you have every chance of getting in :D
there's a lot of competition for places so all of the above really does matter.

any questions don't hesitate to ask

    peace
