Achill golf club! It's flat has no rough and unless you put it in the river(2 holes) it's rare to lose a ball there!

Some people don't like losing golf balls, just wondering where the best place for them to play.

Wouldn't agree. There are a stretch of hole in the middle that are fairly open alright. But the 8 holes around the perimeter and the closing stretch have plenty of danger and out of town on them. You must be accurate the tee wich is some plus there. Good course

I always had it as one of those courses where you can open the shoulders a bit. I haven't played it in years though.

I used to play it years ago and dint plait in a long time till last summer. All the little spinneys and about 20 ft tall now and like a jungle. It has matured really well. It would be well worth a visit I'd say you would be pleasantly surprised

    Jasus no.

1st hole - Spinny left, OB right
    2nd - Long grass left
    3rd - OB right
4th - Big drop off behind green
5th - Big hoor of a lake just right of tight fairway

it kinda goes on like that, I can probably complete the list if you like :)

Clockwise course layouts means if you lose the ball right (most common) there's a good chance you'll be headed towards another fairway or rough between fairways, rather than outside the course boundary.

That's quite a negative frame of mind to approach the game with, but if it floats your boat, then meh whatever.

Pop your name and number on the ball, golfers are so honest someone will contact you and return it surely!

Not too many places to lose a ball in Clontarf

It was a time when I use to mill a driver all over the shop - but have lost a ball on 1 and 2 and 12 there.
1 in trees right, 2 into Mount Temple. 12 , just a savage hard hole.

    ?ACT=38&key=YTo0OntzOjg6ImltYWdlX2lkIjtzOjM6IjI2OCI7czo0OiJzaXplIjtzOjY6Im1lZGl1bSI7czo0OiJ0aW1lIjtpOjE0MjA5OTUxNTU7czoyOiJpcCI7czoxNDoiODAuMTExLjE5MC4yMzAiO30=

As it was cleverly said above an anticlockwise course - is not the friend of a slicer.
But, yes for the middle holes in Clontarf you are just on next fairway . People are not a fan of Clontarf - but i think it is a pleasant enough round. Must go down and play it this year for the laugh.

A course that was ridiculously open was the old nine in deer park (Now football golf if you can believe it)

I often wonder on a course like clontarf - are you fooling yourself a little with your handicap - to go from Clontarf to say Monty / The Heirtage even Luttrellstown - it is like another sport.

But they are crazy courses for another reason - gone too far the other way.

    To offer a joke aside
The most balls I've ever seen lost are on this hole , 3 - Corballis.

I've seen lads lose 3 balls playing the hole, in one go.

Went out there one day in an Open - a lad was using prov1s only - all the gear , played off 11.

Lost well over 12 balls. Was unreal to watch as he was a decent player. Ryainer was with me, we didn't know what to say, laugh or cry.

Templemore. Dreadful place, but flat, open and really, really tight...

Never played Corballis. Looks like a cracking hole. And yes looks like a hole where balls might get lost.

Never played the course, but surely the Curragh is up there ? I'd imagine she's built on that large flat green area ? ;)

The Curragh is interesting , it has a fence on all holes to keep sheep in a certain areas.

This fence saves the day , and sheep keep the long grass back. But a big difficult course - loads of balls can go missing.

    Do sheep eat balls.

I've lost an enormous number of balls around the (Royal now) Curragh. It's actually very hilly and has loads of gorse and trees ready to suck them in, never to be seen again...

well then forget my gross generalization based on driving by it down the motorway on a regular basis, thinking to myself " What a lovely flat piece of land!" lol :D

Exactly what I thought too before playing it, nothing but hills and big ones too, was shocked because I pictured it dead pan flat...

Yeah, don't worry, you're not alone. I was captain of my work society a few years ago and, naturally, had my Captain's Day there. Most of the guys had never played it and couldn't get over the steepness of the hills. I don't think there's a flat hole on the course at all, and looking across from the motorway you'd be forgiven for thinking it would be pancake-like alright.

Mind you, the amount of people who also thought that the Curragh was a million miles away from Dublin and who turned up about an hour early was equally hilarious too!!!
