    Hi guys,

    Posting this for my dad!

He has a problem with a one year old heifer, who was weaned and kept away from her mother for approx. 3 months. When reintroduced to the herd she immediately returned to suckling her mom. We had assumed mom would have dried out and had no milk, but obviously she does!

Mom tries to push her away and isn't happy (she is in calf again) but lady is too big and strong and overpowers her.

Would the weanling nose ring work in this case? I imagine this one would get through anything? What about stockholme tar or something equally horrible to put on the cows teats/udder?

    Any tips gratefully appreciated :)

Throw the nose ring on her and that should do it.
Id be keeping a close eye on the cow now in case of mastitis.

Could you not separate them again?

    Thanks guys!

We are going to try the nose ring and load up mom with Stockholm tar ( have used it on mares udders to keep the flies away, so it's safe!).

If that doesn't work she will be moving. Darn brat :D

Would mastitis be a problem this time of year?

I suppose the fear would be that she might be after bringing the cow to milk.
Just something to watch out for. If you see a large quarter it might be worth a dry cow tube!
