    Hey guys,

    I am considering starting a career in computers.

    I have been accepted into a conversion MSc in dit. My question is should I do this MSc or instead do a hdip in computer science or does it matter?

    You'll need to be more specific about what you mean by 'career in computers'. Do you want to be a software developer? A support technician? A systems administrator? A network engineer? A security analyst? Etc. etc.

    Generally the only one of the above paths where an academic qualification is any use at all at the bottom of the ladder is software development, and I'd imagine even there only pure computer science would be of interest.

    Thanks for your reply. I'm considering doing a conversion msc in software engineering so I was thinking of that route.

    When you say that academic isn't usually much use do you mean that the best way to progress is to start at entry level and work up?
