Question about dead animal waste for processing being stored next to my house?

I live in County Cork and I just found out my neighbor sold his property along with some newer sheds that he was using to store grain. I'm after hearing a rumor now that he sold it to a company that wants to use the property to store dead animal waste (parts) for processing. The sheds are rock throwing distance to my house. This would destroy the value of my property not to mention the smell that we will have to deal with. Can they do this? Don't they need planning permission? I know it's just a rumor but, I do trust the source and it's got me very worried.

Please, any help or advice on what I'll need to do if this turns out to be true would be much appreciated.

I expect they'll need planning permission at least.
Check the planning database to see if any applications have been made.

The licensing for places like that seems to be under the remit of the dept of agriculture. This might help:

If its a knackery thats starting it'll surely need planning and have to be licenced by the Dept of Ag. Anything going on there would have to be done under cover. Dept vets usually call to these places 3-4 times a week taking tissue samples. Have seen them in action. Strict to the letter.
Was in one last saurday. Its actually in the middle of a town with 4 or 5 storey apartments looking down on it within 50 m. In fairness you'd get no smell there's no birds place is clean, nothing nasty to be seen . All undercover indoors. Skips removed everyday. That end of the business is strictly controlled.
Just wondering would the sheds be used for storing paunch (stomach contents). That would need room for storage probably dry too.
I'm wondering is it connected to a venture close to me that got planning recently. How it got planning without major objections is a mystery. Theyd be taking in the paunch as well as other food processing waste to feed an anerobic digester on site
What general area of cork are you in? N S E W

North Cork. I not sure what it will be. It's a rumor at the moment. I will object if it is true.

The unpalatable side of the livestock industry.
Definitely not something I'd want on my doorstep either. Nimbyism i know.
If you get any more info might be no harm to check out if the EPA have any dealings with the place.

    1. Planning section of your county council to see what uses are permitted for those sheds

    2. Environmental section of your Co Co to inspect under all relevant legislation
