Do visa issuing authorities have the right to check you account balance and details with your bank using the details on the visa application ?

    What exactly are you asking?

Visa authorities have the right to set any conditions they like on a visa application, and that can include getting evidence of your financial status. You have the decision to make: give them permission to do the checks they want to do or withdraw the application.

Yes, if you do not have employment in the State they are entitled to check to ensure you have sufficient funds to support yourself for the duration of your stay in Ireland.

Yes they can and as far as I know it is common when apply for visas to most if not all countries in the world. If you do not have a work visa, they will want to know if you can support yourself while staying in the county without being a burden to that country taxpayer/working illegally etc. Even when you have a work visa it is pretty normal for them to look into this.

They can't just phone up the bank and ask the bank to confirm your balance. You would need to authorise the bank to give that information.

But they could ask you to provide a bank statement or official letter and then contact the bank to confirm that it's a genuine document.

The bank would not release sensitive information like your bank balance is my understanding . I was curious as there is no conditions stated on the visa application form for the UK whereby you sign to allow them access or tick a box .
