I am thinking of getting this bike,http://www.trekbikes.com/ie/en/bikes/road/fitness/crossrip/crossrip_comp/ costs €1150 in Dublin store, my questions are:

what is your opinion of this bike ie components etc
are there any other similar type bikes I should check out.

the store I went to look at this would not give any discount although they do give a good after sales service. would mainly be using this for leisure, I had a trek 7.5fx before, but would like to try something different, again many thanks:)

It really depends what you plan on doing with the bike.
If its just for the road you could do a lot better, however im sure it would be comfortable commuter.
The groupset is 8 speed claris which is at the low end of the scale.(albeit nothing wrong with it)
The brakes may sound like a selling point as they are disk but in reality they are mechanical(not hydraulic) and offer V little over regular caliper brakes.
Tell us what you plan doing with your cycling!

thanks for reply and info, the bike I will purchase will mainly be used for leisure ie a few 20mile cycles, say twice a week during spring and summer, then I wish to use it to go to the shops say 4km in the city each way, put some shopping in pannier bags etc, plan to buy through bike to work scheme, so would like to optimise and spend the 1k on bike, I have also thought of the giant roam 0, as well as the trek 7.4fx disc, thoughts please :)

From what you've said I'd forget the giant. It has a front suspension which is if no use to you and adds a significant amount of weight.
The 7.4 has hydraulic brakes seems to have a better drivetrain.
The main difference is the riding position.. That's really up to you to decide which you prefer but it's unlikely you'll be in the drops.
So from what you've described.. The 7.4 would suit you best IMO from those 3
