There are also a number of hurling only clubs.

Drumree used to have a football team up until a few years ago but they then became hurling only and their footballers play with Dunshaughlin now. For a brief period in the last 10 years or so there were also the football clubs of Kildalkey and Killallon.

Actually had fun trying to write down all the clubs from memory :pac: Got to the forties before starting to struggle.

League is Five Divisions. Division One and Two teams field reserve sides as do Senior and Intermediate Championship sides. Junior Championship is split into A and B. B includes third teams of certain Senior Clubs who play in Division Five.

Senior and Intermediate Championship are now groups of four before Quarter Finals. There is promotion and relegation in Championship every year now as far as I know. Pretty sure Glenfin and Realt Na Mara were relegated from Senior at the end of 2014 with Cloughaneely and Buncrana promoted from Intermediate.

Hurling - very few teams compared to football.

Makes sense. In Donegal, Pettigo are the only 'true' Junior B team in Championship. All others are third teams.

From the looks of it a few of those Junior B/C are hurling clubs too, but I cant even imagine playing for a club where your first team plays junior C.

Spot on, they are all clubs where hurling is the main sport and their first team in football is at a low grade. There would be few, if any, lads playing for those clubs who play football and not hurling.

(As far as I can work out you collect tokens off the back of milk cartons to get promoted - the more tokens you have the higher a grade of football you play :D. And we drink a lot of milk in Cavan and that's why we have so many senior clubs)

    LEITRIM

League consists of Div 1-5 / League and Championship Status differs so a team could be playing in Division 1 of League but be in the Intermediate C'ship and so on. Div 1 is predominately Senior Teams. Div-2 Predominately Intermediate Teams - Div 3 - 2/3 Junior Teams + the Second/Third string of Senior / Intermediate Clubs Div 4 - Second String Senior/Intermediate Clubs Div 5 - Second / Third string of Senior/Intermediate/ Junior Clubs.

    Division 1 2015

    Allen Gaels
    Aughawillan
    Aughnasheelin
    Ballinamore Sean Ó'Heslins
    Carrigallen
    Drumkeerin
    Glencar-Manorhamilton
    Gortletteragh
    St Marys Kiltoghert
    Melvin Gaels
    Mohill
    Naomh Padraig Dromahair

    Division 2 2015

    Annaduff
    Bornacoola
    Ballinamore Sean Ó'Heslins (Second Team)
    Cloone
    Drumreilly
    Fenagh-St Caillins
    Glencar Manorhamilton (Second Team)
    Glenfarne / Kiltyclogher
    Gortletteragh (Second Team)
    Kiltubrid
    Leitrim Gaels
    Naomh Padraig Dromahair (Second Team)

    Division 3 2015

    Allen Gaels (Second Team)
    Aughavas
    Aughawillan (Second Team)
    Aughnasheelin (Second Team)
    Ballinaglera
    Bornacoola (Second Team)
    Carrigallen (Second Team)
    Eslin
    Glencar - Manorhamilton (Third Team)
    Kiltubrid
    Mohill (Second Team)
    St Mary's Kiltoghert (Third Team)

    Division 4 & 5

Solely Contested by 2nd and 3rd String teams with the exception of St Osnatt's Glencar who play in Division 5.

    Championship

The Senior, Intermediate and Junior A Championship is played in the following way

    * 3 Groups consisting of 4 Teams each. Each Team plays each other once.

    * Top 2 teams in each group are automatic Quarter Finalists (6).

    * Bottom 3 clubs are automatic Relegation Semi Finalists.

    * of the 3 clubs occupying 3rd place in each group - the best placed of these three (Points, scoring difference, etc) is an Automatic Quarter Finalist (7)

    * The remaining two 3rd Place teams play off. Winner is the last qualifier for the Quarter Finals (8) - Loser is the last team into the Relegation Semi Finals (4)

*Quarter Final draw are then made. Teams in same group cannot meet in the Quarter Finals.

*Semi Final draw is an Open Draw.

Junior B and C Championships are contested depending on how many enteries are received.

The Starting XV for a clubs 1st string team + it's first two subs used in a championship game cannot play in a lower grade in any other championship for that year.

In addition, there are several amalgamations that consistently exist in Leitrim at Minor and U21 level such as

St. Manachans (Cloone, Eslin and Mohill)
St. Francis (Allen Gaels and Ballinaglera)
Fenagh / Gortletteragh (Gortletteragh and Fenagh)
Kiltoghert Gaels (St Mary's and Leitrim Gaels)
Garadice Gaels ( Aughawillan and Drumreilly)
St Brigids ( Aughawillan, Aughnasheelin and Drumreilly)
St Felim's (Aughavas and Ballinamore Sean Ó'Heslins)
    St Josephs (Carrigallen and Aughavas)

Past amalgamations at Minor and U21 have also included

Oughteragh Gaels ( Ballinamore Sean Ó'Heslins and Aughanasheelin)
Sheemore Gaels ( Kiltubrid and Leitrim Gaels)
Glen Gaels (Glenfarne / Kiltyclogher and St Osnatt's)
Greagh Gaels (Fenagh, Cloone and Aughavas)

(As far as I can work out you collect tokens off the back of milk cartons to get promoted - the more tokens you have the higher a grade of football you play :D. And we drink a lot of milk in Cavan and that's why we have so many senior clubs)

ha ha...All true..Its strange alot of the milk comes from Monaghan Co-op :p,I think that cavan list was taken before the championship begun so Arva are now intermediate and Cootehill are now senior. Not sure who got relegated..If you can correct me Tom.

Yes you right that was before the championship so Arva and Cootehill both go up. Redhills were relegated from the Senior Championship (they can probably apply to play senior next year again :D)
