Hedge and Gate

    Hi folks,

sorry if the answer to this is glaringly obvious but I was wondering about planting a 2m (well 6ft) hedge along the front of my house. From what I can gather planning isn't required for a hedge row. Any thoughts?

I'm also under them impression 2m gates at the front are allowed (6ft for my purposes) but I'd like to attach these to a brick pillar either side. I'm wondering if the pillars would need planning? If not I assume wooden posts for part of the gate and therefore do not require planning?

    Thanks in advance!

Mark, Above 1.2 m to the front - planning is required for gate/fence/wall. Hedge is grand though

I know citizens advice can be a 'rendered' with a loss of information but this link is where I got my info on the gates.

Capped walls made of brick, stone or block, wooden fences but not security fences can be erected as long as they do not exceed 1.2 metres in height or two metres at the side or rear. Gates may be build provided they do not exceed 2 metres in height. Permission is always required to if you wish to widen or create new access to the public road.

Any chance you'd point me in the direction of the Act or SI for further reading. Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. I'm currentl reading through SI 600/2001
