Hi all, want to get a tablet recommendation off you. Long post so I will BOLD the important parts for the TL/DR people :)

I recently got a VERY cheap Android 4.2 tablet, german manufacturer called Eyeboom, which I paid €75 for in the end.

Alas I got what I paid for in that while the tablet itself was great I had the following issues:

    1) I could not flash the ROM on it up to 4.4 because none of the packs I tried were compatible and none of the softwares for detecting which pack you need would recognise it.

    2) The battery is, to say the least, awful. It is now at the point that if I charge it to 100% and unplug it, it lasts 20 minutes. Tops. It also was not charged using a standard microUSB phone size charger, but a DC charger, like the small head phone jack ones which is now also not working right (charging only happens if I put it in JUST the right position).

So now I want to buy another one. Again I do not want to pay too much as I have kids and the danger is always being dropped, spilled on and the like. So I prefer to go somewhat disposable. Here in Germany the commonly recommended Nexus7 2013 is about €275 and I was looking more around the €150 mark give or take.

    My requirements are minimal:

    1) Must be robust as kids might drop it

    2) Must have a decent battery in terms of recharge cycles. Actual charge duration 4 hours, 6 hours, 8, I do not really care too much on but bigger is always better. And where possible must use standard rechargers like my HTC One. Over USB. Not another dicky annoying DC connector.

    3) It must either be one of the latest Androids by default OR be a recognized enough brand that I can find a ROM for it easily to flash on. I want to be able to use PROFILES on Android which the earlier versions do not offer, so I can have a different log in to my partner and daugther.

    4) Must have HDMI as one of the main uses of it is to hook to my television to watch downloaded TV and the like.

    5) Specs: Do not have to be TOO high. Mostly will be used for internet browsing, Google Ingress, Email reading, HDMI into my television for movies or music, Zoodles and other childrens play apps, and reading (so sharp enough screen for eye relaxing text reading). Skype also used often so a decent enough front facing camera preferred. Internal memory seems 8gb standard these days? I would like not to get out of memory errors after the first 50 google play updates anyway.

    6) 10" preferred but not a must, but not less than 7" I think.

    What I found so far:

This list is what happens when I put in my specs.

As with Eyeboom I do not know half the brands here. The cheapest one I vaguely recognise is the €94 Trekstor. €141 for an Acer who are at least a more well known brand. Then the ASUS transformer pad breaks the €200 mark.

Too many options for me! And I can find very little info on the batteries between them except that the Asus is meant to have one of the better for its class at 6760mAh (10h run time) but I do not know whats it longevity is like.

Tesco HUDL2 for £129 / €150 - you are paying for what you get with that cheap tablet whereas the HUDL is subsidised and is spec'd like a €300 tablet.

Thanks for that. I had only been looking at models I could order where I am though ( I live in Germany ). Had not thought to look at models from back home in Ireland.

That one does look highly specced alright. The Bloatware might drive me potty as I hate that kind of thing.... so I have put a post on your thread asking has anyone flashed the ROM on it yet and how it went. If that can be done, then this is about as perfect as it gets!

All I have to do then is work out how to order it from here :) I have a sister in the UK so perhaps I can get her to pick it up for me and send it over. I assume its only online? Or also in store there?
