    can a standard coaxial cable be used from sat. dish to decoder (with correct connectors).

    Yes, but you'll need one direct feed from the dish per decoder and two per decoder if you want the ability to record one programme while watching another

    Depends on what you mean by "standard" coax as there are many types . At a minimum for short runs I'd recommend at least good quality RG6
