Fans/wiring, help needed(please)

I have a self-built pc and the front case fan that came with it packed in, grinding noise/lagging, so assumed the bearings are going/gone.

I looked online and seen fans and then seen with postage a €5 fan became €15.

So I went to maplin as they had £6 fans online and of course none in the shop, so they had a buy one get one free on Coolermaster 120mm Sickleflow LED Case Fans. Brought them home and tried the fan settings in the BIOS and couldn’t get speed fan going, they were too loud

So I said I’d try and get same as the one I had at the back, a Scythe Slip Stream - 120mm. I went to komplett and if you look they are all priced and named the same, no product numbers. Which lead me to getting the 1900rpm by an easy mistake. Again BIOS and speed fan couldn’t tame them

I recently replaced a motherboard and the nephew picked one with a case and a cpu fan connection (two connections, three fans), so I got a Fan Splitter Cable Internal 3 Pin wire off ebay to connect two case fans.

Sorry for the long story. I’m basically looking to see what fans and wiring I need or if I need to change wiring the fans to the 4 pin CPU connection?

I have seen a recent thread recommend an Arctic F12 PWM 4 Pin 120mm High Performance Case Fan
    And
Seen someone recommend a Akasa AK-CB002 PWM splitter - smart fan cable

    Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want silent fans, get Noctuas

    http://www.komplett.ie/product/zkb-01com/80015958/noctua-nf-f12-pwm-120mm/details.aspx

    That one any good?

Trying to stick with Komplett so they might play ball more if im just getting different fans and not a refund

NFF12's are kinda famous. As are the NFP12's. But both are optimized for rads and CPU coolers. You really want the NFS12's for high flow low pressure case cooling. Though they'd still be daycent, and very quiet.

IF i stick to Komplett they only have

    Noctua NF-F12 PWM - 120mm
    or
    Noctua NF-P12 PWM - 120mm

Im going by the RPM as a guide to the noise levels so would get the first one as its 300 v 1300

Just to jump back a second, do you need PWM or voltage control?

Skimming back over the OP it sounds like you have a molex to 3 pin adapter? If thats the case they'll always run at full 12v (or 5v if you rewire it, thatd be very slow). Whats the motherboard and does it have enough headers? You should ideally just connect 1 fan per header on the mobo and then the bios control will work. If the board has 3 pin headers you want voltage control fans, if it has 4 pin headers you want "PWM". You might have 4 pin for CPU and 3pin for the rest.

    I have this

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/400332270342?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Again the nephew said one of them will do for connecting two three pin fans to the motherboard

    The motherboard is
Asus M5A 75l-m and it has a case fan three pin and a cpu fan four pin and that’s it

I get what you’re saying about connecting them straight to the PSU with an adaptor

That splitter will feed 12v and ground into both fans in parallel, which is fine, but it also puts the sensors(RPM) in both in parallel, most likely meaning the board cant read em(or reads double), Im not sure.

    I have one of these:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Channel-Pin-Connector-Blue-Controller/dp/B006Z8LB6S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420679499&sr=8-2&keywords=fan+controller

Its mounted in reverse as I didnt want it ruining the look of my case, it just casts a blue glow on the white CPU fan now. It plus some NFP12's would be a grand setup if you have a spare bay to shove it in.

EDIT: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/316374-30-using-splitter-head#4406260 this post is a good idea actually.

Are fan controllers not more for people gaming? That’s what I see anytime they are mentioned on line.

Do you have this fan fitted?

    Noctua NF-P12 PWM - 120mm

I’m trying to find a place where I can what parts I need together, as I said a €5 becomes €15 with postage from what I’ve seen

Ive had the spillter running ok, but the fan on the back seems noiser on the front and im wondering would the spillter have cause the front fan to break or just a coincidence(its over three years old)

Shouldn't have caused anything to break. Different blades give different sounds and smaller fans will be higher pitched and nosier for the same airflow.

Fan controllers are for everyone, I use mine so that I can set them all quite low, its more control than using in line resistors(have them in the home server).

Replacing the noisy ones with noctuas should work fine as long as bios fan control works, if it doesn't they may spin too fast.

Edit: komplett have pwm noctua fans, you don't want pwm!

    Whats wrong with pwm?

Looked online and everyone gives the ones komplett has great reviews

Sorry, you could actually use PWM fans, they'll just run at full tilt unless you reduce the voltage output from bios. Which, having a glance at the manual, there isnt an option for (only CPU). Really a fan speed reducer would be a good idea independent of the fans in use.

Thanks for all this information, its very helpful as this is all news to me as they say

The ones on Komplett have reducers included(Low-noise adapter)

Any suggestions on where to get a fan controller, the amazon one you linked me is €15 postage and then komplett don't have any, the one i seen in maplin was like €50

Oh, if they include reducers then you're sorted. That'll slow em down enough.
