What's a good 240GB SSD?

Currently have a 120GB Corsair Force GT, and find it to be grand, but lately too small. Thus, and with GTA5 on the horizon, I'm going to get a 240GB SSD.

I'll be mainly using it for gaming (BF4, ARM3, and GTA5), although I'll also be using it with Photoshop and some light video editing.

Thinking of going Corsair again, although I will also consider Crucial and Samsung also. In terms of price, I don't want to spend more than €200, and preferably around the €150 mark, however is there any point looking at the 360GB SSD's?

Also, what is "wrong" with the Crucial SSD's? I note the 512GB CT512MX100SSD1 is only £149, with the 256GB CT256MX100SSD1 £78 - from looking at reviews, I can't seem to find out why they are so cheap, although I have seen the Samsung 840 EVO 250GB for £89 and it's 500GB counterpart for £170 or perhaps are Corsair just pricey?

They're amazing. There's nothing wrong with them. It's just because of e-peen **** on a lot of forums speccing 850 Pros for people with enough money who want the "extra performance". Grab the biggest capacity MX100 you can afford.

There's also the BX100 coming at some point, but it was only just announced, so I don't know when it's actually going to be available for purchase.

I got the Samsung 840 evo.

Reasons? Sure i could get a larger capacity ssd for less, but when you're buying an ssd you go for performance, not capacity. Otherwise you may as well stick with a large hdd.

Or strick a balance between price and performance.

I paired a 2450gb samsung evo 840 with a 1tb Western Digital caviar black hdd.

Yeah, i dont benefit from an extra 50 MB/s read/write speeds in pretty much anything i do when most SSDs are already so fast, whats an extra 5-10% going to do (for me that is). The main benefit i find from SSDs is the fast access, so after that im mainly looking at 1. decent reliability and 2. capacity for a set budget.

Te premium for buying the top of the line isnt worth it for me, might be if the extra 5-10% in read/write speeds give you a large benefit, but for most i would imagine it doesnt.

Edit: By the way, i have a sandisk, two crucials and one samsung SSD, and i genuinely dont notice any real difference, maybe if i was running large databases hammering them with reads and writes it might become apparent

    Hi
Where did you find this SSD for €78 ?

    thanks

    Hi
Where did you find this SSD for €78 ?

    thanks
    Here; http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KFAGCWK

I've been told that the MX100 series uses cheaper parts, and as it'll be my main drive I'll probably pay the extra, and get the Samsung 840 EVO.

    In fairness I've found the "cheaper" parts would take a while to wear out;
The drive is rated for 72TB of total writes, which works out to 40GB per day for five years.
Another factor is that the 128GB version had a 150MB/s write speed, and the 256GB version had a 330MB/s write speed. Considering my current SSD had a write speed around the 500MB/s mark I think I'll give the Crucial SSD a miss.

ok thanks but thats Sterling. So more like €100.

Best value I can see for a 240-256GB is the kingston V300 which is €99 on komplett or pixmania.
the Kingston V300 is 450mb/sec for read and write.

Ugh. Meant £, corrected post. Too used to typing €.
Seems the Kingston V300 480GB is €209, and the Samsung 840 Evo Series 500GB €229

Pretty much set on around the 480-500GB range now, as last time I got a SSD, prices were fairly high.

Dear gawd! £280 SanDisk Extreme PRO 960GB o.0 Nearly twice my budget, though!

To give you an idea, I accidentally had an older drive (Samsung 830, I think) plugged into a SATA2 port for ages, and genuinely noticed no difference. Sequential reads and writes are pretty much the least important thing about an SSD when determining its performance, but for some reason it's still the number a lot of... less educated people keep parroting on about on forums all over the place. Don't even get me started on IOPS...

The 850 Pro. Again, completely not worth the money unless you really want a ten year warranty.
