I'd say that texting is worse, at least the drunk has their blurry eyes on the road!

Does this mean you text while driving or are you just assuming everyone does it?

I blame the new phones. It was easy to write a text without taking your eyes off the road with the old phones. These smart phones make it much more difficult, and dangerous!

Well you could use SIRI. It actually works.

Buit I agree its a nono. its much worse than taking a call.

I can't understand why people would do something so dangerous. Death wish maybe?

How about roadside CCTV, get captured using a phone, or texting, automatic fine and points.

That and some self discipline, it's not hard.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

There is a gadget called Navdy which allows gesture control of a phone while driving. You put it on the dashboard and it projects the phone info onto a small popup HUD.

Texting would still be dangerous though.

EDIT: Maybe not if you use voice control for that, like in the video clip.

The guards seem well able to play with their phones while driving.
Maybe they could teach the rest of us how to do it safely!

I never send texts when I'm driving, I tried it a few times and spilled my beer. It's a definite no-no. You'd need three arms. Or a cup-holder.

I have seen a friend of mine put up videos of him driving on snapchat. I don't want to turn him in because obviously he'll know it was me and I don't want him banned, but do you think the gardai would knock around to his house and scare him if I told them the situation?

They are there waiting for your call with their tasers drawn. Snapchatting is a gate-way addiction, it leads to Instagramming and full on Facebookery. Especially when driving. Make that call. Your pal will thank you. Possibly.

Crazy thing is he nearly died in a car crash a few months ago, hospital for weeks, don't know what caused it but I bet I can guess...

I don't know his car reg though or his address, and would I need proof of some sort?

Those cnuts who won't move off when the light goes green because their puss is glued to the screen of their fcuking iphone, with their face all lit up. Yeah, they fcuking jump with a good blast of the horn. Usually women.

What is so important that people feel the need to text while driving?! At least with calls, your eyes on the bleedin' road, but to risk taking your eyes away from the road and possibly cause an accident, all for a bloody text...

That is different as they have to stay in contact to catch folk!

There is a game from Google called Ingress. Its a real world GPS based game, like a mix of capture the flag and Geocaching.

Anyway they recently signed a deal with AXA Insurance. In return for loads of money, every branch of AXA Insurance in the EU will now be a GPS location "portal" in the game.

So....... a car insurance provider is actively sponsoring a game that specifically encourages users to take their eyes off the road while driving.

    Nice :)

It's ridiculous that parallel parking, motorway driving and updating your Facebook profile at the wheel are not parts of the driving test.

During the holidays I saw a motorcycle cop who nearly come off his bike trying to get his phone out from inside his jacket. When he had it out he preceeded to film the vintage vehicles he was escorting as they went around a sweeping right hand bend all the while while standing up and driving at less than 10mph out on the white line.

I am out and about in Ranelagh around the Triangle every day, and sit having coffee there every other day for significant periods. The number of people driving along with their phone against their head, or clearly texting is huge. A lot of times I see three drivers in row. I have absolutely no sympathy for them. It costs a hundred quid to get a hands free set and they can pull over any time to send a text.

Not that either texting or drunk driving is safe but you can always stop texting at any moment but you can't stop being drunk at any moment.
