I got an email this evening from howdidido to say my handicap has changed from 8.4 to 9.4 but it doesn't say why. I started 2014 season on 7.0 and I didn't think you could get more then 2 shots back in a year, I had a terrible year golf wise so I was thinking i may have got it back just for general poor play, anyone else ever got a shot back like this?

End of year review. You explained the reason for the increase in your post.

    I got 0.5 back aswell.

I thought it was a general club review thing though, not just for people who played ****e.

    Feel bad now :(

Ah well, will have to make a point to at least play to handicap at some point this year I guess!

End of year review I'd say.
I think the two shots limits is by way of 0.1s only.

Happened to me in 2009, got a letter totally out of the blue over the Christmas giving me, I think 2 shots back from memory.

After a year of scoring in the low 20's I got 1.0 added to my collection of .1's

In our place, when the handicap review is performed, the software (think it's Club2000 for us) suggests players whose scores have been out of whack with their handicap and even makes recommendations on what revisions should be applied. My recollection is that all recommendations were for increases in this instance. The discussion then focussed on whether there was a reason why their handicap shouldn't be increased e.g. it was known that someone was returning from injury/illness, couldn't play to their current handicap whilst recovering but would likely be able to play to their current handicap without a further increase.

Once all recommendations were agreed by the handicap committee, I think they are then sent to GUI for approval and subsequently people would be informed of their new handicaps, which is probably what's happening now.

I lost a shot in 2012 with a year end review, while my buddy gained a shot. funny we were both happy at the time.

They have to, it's a CONGU requirement, changed a little this year in so far as it now has to be done by the end of November.
