I would just like to draw attention to a fantastic new community choir starting up in McCauley Place in Naas next Tuesday the 13th of January at 11am. It is aimed at those living with dementia and their carers and its aims are broad in nature.

It aims to enhance the lives of those living with dementia who will benefit from the now proven effects of music on procedural memory, mood and over all wellbeing.

It also aims to provide carers with a weekly support network where they can engage with their peers over a cuppa, and avail of advice and therapies from rotating volunteering professionals. The shared experience with their loved one should also provide opportunities for welcome meaningful exchanges.

Finally, it aims to encourage intergenerational and cross community activities through the utilisation of volunteering secondary school students, adult members of local choirs and joint performances with school choirs. Social inclusion of those living with dementia is of great importance to those spearheading the project, who come from a range of backgrounds (SAGE, Kildare County Council, the HSE, and Arts in Health).

The project is funded by http://dementiaelevator.ie and Kildare County Council who have shown great support for the concept.
