Hey, I'm not sure if this is the right forum but looking for some information. Can anyone who has completed, or is currently enrolled in the above Masters suggest some Gaeltacht colleges that you went to as part of the course requirements?

Is it required before you enter the programme?

does the college send you out a list of colleges?

    Thanks in advance.

Hey, not sure if I'm answering you question right. But its not a requirement to go to the gaeltacht before starting the course. You go to the Gaeltacht twice for 2weeks while completing the Masters programme. The colleges organize where you are sent. :-) you can PM me if that doesnt answer your question

    Hi loubian,

No it's not a requirement to complete a Gaeltacht course before starting the PME.

Location also depends on where you're from. I've attended Coláiste Naomh Éanna in Galway. I found it to be a great course and that the woman who ran it was very attentive to our needs. Notes were a plenty and really helped for college! :)

We had a meeting during our first semester and the college was pushing one particular college (name escapes me!) but we were given a website with all the affiliated coláistí so we could decide ourselves :-)

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Loubian,,

Re: the Gaeltacht in the MA primary education.

It is a course requirement that you spend 4 weeks in Gaeltacht throughout the academic year.

This is usually broken up, two weeks in the first year and two weeks in the second year of the course. In Marino institute of Education this two weeks is during the Easter break. However, i'm not sure about the other colleges. I believe in St. Pats the first 2 weeks gaeltacht stint is in early September of the first year, but you'll need to confirm that with the college.

An open day was held in MIE where all the Gaeltachts available for MA student placements had a stand to promote their respective course. These provided us students with all available options and we then booked the Gaeltacht of choice. However, the majority of students arranged to the one so they could stick together.

It's not a requirement that you attend the gaeltacht before starting the MA course, however Gaeltacht attendance as part of the course is mandatory.

If you're looking at doing a course before the Irish language interview for the course I would recommend Conradh na Gaeilge. They do a full day Irish prep course specifically for the PME in primary Ed. and also conduct a mock interview.

    Best of luck!
