Sky TV - new Sky Box needed :-(

    Hi everyone,

    I would really like some advice. I'm with sky since 2009 and we have a fairly basic package with kids, documentaries and music channels. Recently my hubby splashed out and got sky sports and we have this half price with a rolling month to month contract.

    My issue is he keeps ringing looking for a new box, his parents in their 80s has a far nicer of than ours. We are also looking for the new services such as box sets and on demand.

    When I log into our account online it says that an engineer is coming to our house and so we can't get HD or upgrade basically to any sort of box?!?

    We've tried the whole walking away from sky but it never works. But this time I'm actually quite tempted to just pack it in and try again in a few months as new customers.

    Please we would love any advice from any of you wiser and cuter folk of boards.ie

    Ring up and cancel the whole shebang, on the same day go online and put in a new order for what you want and enter a new 1 year contract. You get new sky boxes, new remotes, new dish & up to date hardware. I recently did it as remotes were shagged, and some interference problems. Sky customer service were giving me the usual "press one press two, now your problem should be resolved". Easier cancelling and restarting, I made the new and older contracts overlap by a week. I,ve been a customer 15 years. I explained to the rep what I was doing whilst cancelling, he said it was the best way to do it.

    Moved to satellite, OK I know the OP has received an answer, but I think that there may be some other options from the appropriate forum.

    Sky will easily spot a new sign up from an existing customer and cancel down the order. Two far easier options present themselves;

    (i) Upgrade to HD at half price and get a box for €30 - I'd actually go for a 2TB box at €79 personally.

    (ii) Threaten to cancel if you don't get a new box.

    You need HD for the box sets etc anyway, if you just want a new box but no new services take option (ii).

    You need to ring.
