    Hi all

Saw the Nicholas Roche team sky Jersey with tricolour on sleeve.

    Think it looks class.

Anyone know if Raphael/ team sky will make replicas available for sale to general public or will it just be the plain team sky Jersey .

It ain't up on the website yet anyway

    John

Is a very cool touch indeed. Surprised Geraint Thomas didn't hop on the bandwagon and ask for a Welsh flag. Not one for buying or wearing team jerseys but I wouldn't say no to a replica of Roche's. Would compliment my signed Sky Rapha T-Shirt.

Yes not an advocate of wearing team jerseys myself and certainly never thought my first would be team sky.

But would definitely purchase nico's one if it was available to buy

You get to have the flag on your jersey for being a former national champion, so Geraint Thomas gets the Union Jack on his jersey.

I don't think that was the message with Roches jersey. Usually you'd only wear the bands/flag till the following year, can't recall anyone whose done it for longer. Roche hasn't won the national champs in over 5 years.

Correct me if I'm wrong by the way.

You are wrong!! I've seen at least one article confirming it was because of his earlier champioship win. In the same way Deignan and Froome do not get flags as they are not former champions

You get to wear the champions jersey for a year, but are permitted to have the discrete flag on thereafter. So for example Susie Mitchell and Orla Hendron, both Masters Track World Champions, can wear the world stripes whenever taking part in the relevant event on the track

Good question, I think Robbie McEwen wore his indefinitely. Here he is in 2008 with the Aussie flag on the sleeves, when he last won the national champs in 2005

But yeah, not all pros keep them indefinitely. Can't find any pictures of Roche with stripes on his Saxoff kit.

In OPQS previous national and world champs have flags on the jersey sleeve but they also have the national flag on the collar , which is a bit unusual

All the Team Sky riders who have been a national champion have their country's flag on the sleeve of their jersey.

I myself wear team jerseys, this one looks lovely. Really nice touch with the flag. Should it not be on them by default? It dosent take anything away from the jerseys.

it would be great to see the tricolour on display at the head of races on roche's arm but i think he could have got the flag design correct.. colours should be verticle not horizontal

If they went that route it would be difficult to see all colours from every angle.
    I think it looks great.

Colours will be "verticle" if he holds his arm out straight...

Irish champion bands are meant to be horizontal.

It's not a flag. It's the National Championship bands.

I'll miss the good old days (last season) of trying to identify Roche by shoe covers or something when the coverage is patchy or the weather is bad. The Mclaren bike was great for identification purposes late last year. The stripes will make things a lot easier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭dexty

haha, good point! altho Duignan will have similar stripes! But you tend to know the different body shapes between those two. I wonder whatever happened to that McLaren!!!

Deignan will only have the flag beside his name on the side panel on the kit.

The Wiggo jersey with british bands was available on Rapha website a few years ago, so possible for the Roche one

A 100 euro though for the normal jersey, bit pricey eh!

You can customise the flag and name on the jersey on the rapha site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭morana

I thought for some reason it should have been the official colours of CI with the purple in it. I know its a national flag but we are a different situation with our northern brothers and sisters. Thats why if you look at the presentation jerseys after the champs none have orange on them, like this one

Anyone I've seen wearing the bands of a past national champ has had the green, white and orange ones:

I had also emailed and got same response as OP but got this back this morning.

Come on Lads bombard them with "demand" and we might get an exclusive release of Nico's Jersey

I can't see why they can't do a limited run ..afterall they have to make them for Nico...surely he gets more than one or two a year? ust need to press the button a few times more ? Sounds like a jobsworth person

The 'where Nico' game of course is now totally defunct

What about Dan Martin Jersey ?/ No band on his and not alot of green...will all the Irsih fans be rushing ot buy this jesey

Usually (/Always) these jersey's are made in China by sub-contractors. The manufacturer send the Chinese company the specs and tell them to make 100,000 jersey's or whatever*. Then these jersey's are sent to shops, the team, warehouses etc. but the actual manufacturing is all done in one big run.

So the manufacturing of the Sky jerseys is probably already done and there are no plans to make any more unless their is demand from shops to make another 10,000+. It's probably not possible to contract a Chinese company to make a small amount of Nico Jerseys as they would only deal in big orders.

*This is then where the fakes/counterfeits come from. The Chinese company makes the 100,000 for Sky but doesn't stop making them when the contract is up and sells off an extra XX thousand as counterfeits. They also sell off all the jerseys that didn't pass Quality Control. It's the same for football kits etc.

Things have changed. Mass customization allows for smaller batches of similar items to be made cheaper. Rapha (if they wanted) could do a much smaller batch of nico jerseys at a cost no different than the wiggo or Froome batch

They did it before - http://road.cc/content/news/81608-rapha-offer-personalised-team-sky-replica-jerseys

(admittedly a much smaller flag than what is on Roche's).

I have it on good authority (Sky not rapha) that this jersey is not likely to make it into general sale, there is likely to be a limited production run at some point, but it wont be on sale to the general public
