Does anyone know of anywhere you can get caustic up north for dehorning calves?

I thought that caustic was banned in the UK too. Stand corrected.

Some farmer style pharmacies still stock it. Little tube of paste does approx 25

Depends, sum calves will show a bud at 4 weeks but sum may be 8/10 weeks. It's a very easy job if you don't let them get to strong.

I'd normally do them between 10 to 14 days easy to handle at that age.
