Power in the attic

    Mounted a TV on the bedroom wall and I want to hide the cables. Therefore I would like to power it from the attic.
    I can see the cables in the attic running to the bedroom ceiling lights.

    Would it be okay to simply cut one of those cables rejoin it through a new plug socket?
    Will I be safe to cut it if I turn off the power at the fuse box?
    Will it be good to power a tv and a sky box and not affect the light?

    Get electrician, as the other guy said. Most of the cable in light circuits is 1.5mm twin and earth, sockets for bedrooms (light loads) is normally 2.5mm twin and earth. Lighting cable it too light.

    if you get a fused spur (elec shop will tell ya 13 Amp?) ,turn off elec - cut into a 2,5 [EMAIL="T@E"]T@E[/EMAIL] , wire..... in attic... wire ...... in an extension lead (fused)
    will be grand.. turn on the ELCB , at board first , then plug in a lamp.

    test the extension lead , ensure lamp goes out, then switch off elcb ensure lamp goes out , write note on elcb , that ext lead wired in...will be grand.


    generally you cant go1.5 lights to 2.5 sockets , load too heavy..you can go 2.5 to1.5.......presume you have some diy exp.

    every shed in the country has similar set up!!! as well as most attics

    I am going to assume that the attic does not have any 2.5 (modern semi-d) and engage an electrician to do this.
