I'm looking at moving away from console gaming, many of the games I play are multiplat (batman, bioshock, mass effect, dead space, metro, wolfenstein) so I think I can suck up the loss of a few stellar exclusives.

I'm just getting started and doing my research to see if this is a good move for me.

    1. What is your budget?
    €600-700

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? 1920x1080, upgrade next year

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Rather not

    8. How can you pay? card

    9. When are you purchasing? Next few weeks/months

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Maybe, Galway city

First draft, over budget, sketchy research:

You forgot a hard drive of any sort :P

There's also no point buying a -K cpu if you're not going to overclock.

Can shave a lot of money off there....No need for a K CPU unless you're overclocking and you can definitely afford to get a far more basic Z97 board for around €80 - if you're definitely not overclocking, you can also consider a far more basic H81 or similar.

Power supply is also very overkill, a Corsair CX430 would do the job, or the CX500. Zalman T4 is OK but on that budget I'd get a nicer case, the T4 as well is quite small and longer cards may be an issue. The Corsair Carbide Spec 01 cases are very affordable and quite nice as an example.

You forgot a hard drive, on that front I would take a 1TB plus 120GB Samsung Evo Mx100 combo.

Somebody suggested this processor to me when I enquired (Terrorfirmer) comes in a nice handy dwindle with board and 8gb vengeance ram

Dabs IMO has some good stuff at a nice price with cheap postage

Thanks guys, I actually remembered that I have a 1tb 7200rpm samsung drive lying around. The reason I went for the K was that while I'd rather not overclock, dammit if I don't like to tinker - but this is something that I can lose and upgrade down the line.
I do have to reign myself in though and need to stick to my budget, do I need to downsize just about everything on my list? should I stick with that gpu? A different mobo, psu, case and a non K cpu have been mentioned as changes I should look at making.

Basically I see this build as a jumping off point, I'll be swapping parts over the year, and like anyone i'm trying to get the best bang for my buck with that in mind.

I didn't make any changes based on budget, purely on the usage of the machine. You're not being reigned in performance wise in the slighest. ;)

Oh I know that :P I meant that I have to reign myself in because I'm spending money on parts that I don't necessarily need.
Could you recommend a cpu/mobo for me to look into? In the last day alone I've obtained so much new information, it hasn't quite organised in my mind yet :pac:

I'm looking into the cpu Jsmurff pointed out earlier at the moment (http://m.dabs.ie/products/asus-intel-pdc-anniversary-bundle--includes-h81m-plus--intel-pdc-g3258---8gb-vengeance-memory--9MBS.html) but the default sceptic in me needs time :P

I doubt it would be much good for ultra modern games but then again I could be wrong it was suggested to me as a nice all rounder. I tend to playe the likes of fallout farcry counterstrike minecraft so i dont really require that much power in terms or processing.
