Are these damaged stock that have been repaired? They say they are recertified ??
What type of warranty do you get with these products

It says on the bullet points in the link that they are return units and may have been repaired and that the warranty on them is 6 months. There could be some scuffs on some of them but they should work fine.

The OP's link is to the UK page. If you change to "Rest of EU" and choose > Outlet > Recertified you will get different offers priced in Euro and including free delivery to Ireland.

I got a refurbished usb 2.0 model 2 years ago. The case had two slight scratches on it, the drive works perfectly to this day (maybe luck of the draw). Stress test the drive for a few days after you get it. Since these are USB 3.0 I'm gonna pick one of these up as extra storage for the Xbox One. Thanks OP

Wouldn't risk it, no great saving and warrenty is only 6months..

Would personally spend the few quid more for a full warranty and a better safe of mind with any data stored on it.
I don't know what you consider a great saving but the best price I can see elsewhere on a 4TB My Book works out at €150 from Amazon vs. €90 delivered for the refurb.

As for reliability, any storage or backup strategy that puts all your faith on one drive is asking for trouble. You should be mirroring everything and if you are really paranoid have your mirror in a different physical location so that you protect yourself from fire, floods and theft.....

    I agree.

...but I bought a new WD HD once that packed up on me, taking my backups with it, yet the iomega refurb (holding films and TV shows) I bought is still going strong, after about 4 years.

If you do buy one, use it for stuff that won't be missed in the event of a failure.

There is an element of luck involved in any drive. Some are more reliable than others, but it is not that uncommon for drives to fail very early in their life.

I'd always be of the mind, that if a drive survives the first month or two, it should be good to go. (***obviously this isn't gospel!!***)

As for those with PS4's etc, are you planning on just plugging these in via USB? If not, make sure that these are removable from the case, as a lot of portable drives are soldered to the USB boards...making them no longer usable for laptops/xboxes etc.

would 65.00 for the 3TB model be a good price? Just looking to store movie files on it, and keeping it hooked up to my PC.

EDIT: Bought it. 4TB was €30 more which isn't better value than €65 for the 3TB. 4TB was out of stock anyway.

    Delighted! Thanks OP

Anyone elses MyBook external drive making noises? Mine is sitting on the desk next to my PC and is constantly making a pretty loud rattling noise.

Don't be surprised. Buying recertified HDDs is pretty much the same as buying recertified underpants, but IMHO - way more risky.

Should they be making noise? It works grand, just noisy.

Run a diagnostic tool such as WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic as it may be failing:

If any unrepairable errors are found, return it immediately.

Just to add. If it is making noise, do not under any circumstances use it as a primary storage drive. Store everything elsewhere. You could still use it as some sort of backup, but an unreliable one.

As said, run scans on it. But it sounds ropey to me.

I wouldn't be too worried. So long as you're moving all your family photos exclusively to this hard drive I wouldn't worry too much! Hard drives fail, **** happens.

I ran the extended test, took 8 hours in total, scanned the whole drive, and it passed all tests.

I'm only using it to store downloaded movies on, nothing that I'd be overly upset about losing is being stored on it. So would you think I'm okay then?
