Hi guys, hoping ye can help me.

I was unpacking my golf gear after just purchasing an electric golf trolley. as I unfolded the trolley and put battery on it went ff on its on without me noticing and hit a kerb full pelt.

After that the trolley had no power at all even though battery had just been fully charged. Took it home and tested motor and everything ok. Problem lies with the battery.

Hooked it up to a volt meter and zero charge reading but when i Hook it up to its charger the lights stays green and the battery wont charge, light just stays green and wont switch to red.

Just wondering what could of caused this and is it possible the the zero charge in the battery means the automatic charger cant detect it and so is not charging?

Never would of though hitting a kerb like that would discharge the battery unless its a safety feature?

Also have tested charger and works fine, problem just lays with battery being on charge but not holding any charge due to charger being constantly on green.

and advice/ suggestions would be great

It shouldn't be able to take off on its own by just attaching the battery.
I heard the exact same thing happen to a woman who bought a Powerkaddy FW3 (maybe 5) from golfstoreeurope, she was holding the handle as she put the battery in place, it dragged her across the car park, not sure why she didn't just let go. Anyway they said they had seen the fault before and replaced it for her.

nah this was my own doing the speed regulator was up full and just didnt notice and off it went. :) its not an expensive model, just slow, med and fast settings on a dial

Right, so that's not the problem.
Sounds like one of the battery terminals is broken so it doesn't charge or read a charge.

If it's a new battery it might be under warranty

Pry off the cover over the terminals and make sure all is good there.
Also the connectors, on both the battery and the trolley, that's hard plastic that could be cold and brittle.

If it's reading 0volts on the meter it looks like battery is shagged. You have the meter on DC?

Won't be under warranty if it was smacked of a kerb, even if it was not the OP fault, Wouldn't come under normal use.
Sound to me like the connector to the terminals might be goosed.

Sounds like the problem is with the caddy car connector, the charger shows green because you said the battery wad fully charged.
Do you have another to test with?

On mine an indicator light shines red on connection even though the battery may be fully charged. It takes a few seconds to diagnose thebatterys status before indicating full. What make is it OP?

I have tested the multimeter at all connections. I was able to hook the battery terminals up to a car jumper pack and all connections worked fine with 12v reading at every connection to trolley and the motor spun also so problem is definitely with the battery.

The unit is a sealed, zero maintenance. My suspicion is that unless the battery charges using a manual charger that will charger regardless if the battery has zero volts stored in it then it must have been killed by the hit somehow.

I dont understand how a battery with no moving parts and that is powered by a current with acid/water could have been affected by a knock and stopped charging completely.

Hopefully the manual charger will give it enough juice to be picked up by the automatic one

This is the article I am hoping that is the issue with my battery, will know once manual charger arrives today:
    http://parts.diversifiedgolfcars.com/batteries-wont-charge.aspx

In response to questions the caddy was a cheap x ranger with standard rechargeable battery.
The battery is reading as 0 volt when put on the meter so is completely discharged and is not charging. As per the articlce im hoping this is the issue as the charger needs to pick up a nominal voltage to begin charging the battery

    Thanks for all the help

hmm, id say you have broken off something within the battery at the terminal with the impact so.
since they are zero maintenance though you are probably fecked.

    Hope not!

thats the thing though when i hook up a pair of jumper cable to the battery terminals and then onto another charged battery , the motor runs fine so there is voltage going through the terminals from the other battery but as soon as i disconnect the jump leads the battery still reads zero :/

just go the manual charger so will report back if thats resolves the issue as per the article

but wouldnt the power be just moving through the jumper cables?

ahh, unless of course you have them wired in series!

does seem like the battery cant hold a charge, strange though since you say it was fully charged right beore the incident?

yeah exactly literally hittign the kerb seem to have knocked the power out of it, might have damaged the cells or something. yeah exactly was basically using the power form the other battery in series and motor worked fine. afraid to go out and check the battery status now :P

    next on the list
