Want to do test but only auto car to practise?

    Hello

The answer is probably obvious, buy a manual car, but thought I would post this in case someone has another novel suggestion.

I drive an automatic car. My 17 year old son wants to do the test but he doesn't want to restrict himself by doing it in an auto car. So he is taking lessons with an instructor but really needs practise with the gear changes etc.

What I am thinking is to buy a little old banger with manual gears just to get him through the test. Any other suggestions on this? My Dad has a manual car but not ideal to ask a relative or friend to take him out, in my opinion

As I stated at the start the answer is probably just buy the manual car....

Offer to pay your dad what it would cost to add your son onto your dads policy. Then you take him out for lessons and practice driving sessions in your dads car. Your son does his test in that car whenever he feels ready. Would that not be a lot cheaper than buying another car?

The money you would spend on an old car, can't you just buy extra lessons instead?
