DS Phat repair query

    Hi

Look, I'm not looking for someone to do a DS Phat repair. I'm beyond that now.

Basically the top and bottom screen became consciously decoupled a few years ago, and I took the extreme step of replacing the entire case. It was cheaper than just buying the hinge, and I always wanted a black Phat. It went pretty well, I ported the hardware over to the new case without breaking the screens or frying the board. Now, "pretty well" does not mean "perfect"...

Alas and alack, when I opened the case the 2 shoulder buttons went north and south. I never found them or the springs. Luckily the replacement case had replacement shoulder buttons and springs. Unluckily, those buttons are carrying a lot of excess plastic, and I no longer have a guide against which to trim them.

So, my appeal to the Ninty Forum :
Do you have a few glamour shots of a standard DS Phat shoulder button that I can use to carve up my chinese substitutes and finally screw my Phat back together?

    Cheers

    B

Traded my old phat DS way back for a Lite, so no use to you, but even looking for images of the buttons online was proving to be pretty difficult!

If you can figure out which side there is too much plastic on, and shave minimal amounts off until it fits might be the best idea.

Having done the case swaps on DS lites, I feel your pain with trying to get the damn shoulder buttons and springs and pegs back in place, those things are a nightmare.

I would suggest just replacing the thing.
You'll pick up another one for around 30, less if you hit the Sunday markets.
And replacement cases are never as nice as the original, the buttons, plastic and build always feel "off" somehow .

While I appreciate the suggestion, I *have* the replacement case, buttons and innards. I *don't* have €30 :)

Also, Star Lord, I'm slightly offended that you don't think I google-image-searched before posting :)

It's not looking likely that I'll get the old bird flying again :(
Which is a shame. Was looking to hand it on to my daughter - a new 2/3DS is just too expensive right now, but I'd feel wrong shelling out for a new DS/DSi given their age, or buying one in... Ah well. Maybe it's time to sell off Conker to drum up some cash...

I wasn't saying that you didn't, I'm just saying I couldn't get over how the only pics I could find were of the Lite buttons, or the buttons in the console, none of the buttons alone!

I can take a few pics of mine later on this evening but it's not disassembled if that's any use?
