if you are a married couple with two cars , and you are insured on one , and the wife insured on the other , do you need to be a named driver for the other car if you have fully comp on your own car ?

    - the fully comp policy allows the driving of other cars .
( but maybe you are not fully comp on this car possibly ) ?

i guess it boils down to

does named driver on other car mean you are also fully comp on the other car ?

Driving of other cars is mostly 3rd party, but may exclude cars owned by spouse/partner. Better add the other person to each other's policies (that's what me and the missus did) and it will be fully comp and you know you're covered.
It might not even cost anything, or only cost a small bit.

You will only have the basic insurance cover when you are driving someone else's car.
You need to read the terms of your policy (both of them) and see what the requirements are.
If it were me though I'd just add the person to the policy, less hassle at the end of the day if something goes wrong and you keep the fully comp feature.

FBD fully comp anyone on my car over 25, provided they meet conditions stated in the policy document.

Since in marriage property is usually considered joint property would that not exclude a spouse's vehicle from the driving other vehicles extension? You technically do own it.

If your named on both cars then you are fully comp on both cars providing the insurance is fully comp.

If you own your car and only your name on the policy then your wife would drive your car on her insurance but only if her insurance allows to and is only in a third party basis. And vice versa.

But also sometimes its cheaper to both people to be named on each so check it out too

When renewing policy you insure the car as normal and add partner as a named driver . And vice versa .job done .
