Anybody get paid for 2014 yet? Was looking on agfood and seen that 2013 was paid out before the end of the year.

Has there been any word if it'll continue this year?

Is this definite yet or is it just rumour at the minute?

Wasn't that always the case that it was a three year programme?

From what I gather it depends heavily on the members of the group. I find our group great, everyone has input, no one is talked down to, I think I learned something everywhere I went.

I've asked last year for my farm to be the first visit this year. I don't particularly think I've anything to teach anyone, but I'll value constructive criticism, much of which I probably can't even see myself out of familiarity with the place & system.

See we were some of the first farms back in 2000s to start weighing new born lambs tagging them and matching them with mothers... twas part of a teagasc scheme to help develop their advisors... recording weights and tags for 1600 lambs was a lot of paperwork and at the end to be put into the fire finished us with teagasc.. is there much paperwork in it ?

Depends on the measures you take, something like attend 5 or 6 meetings a year which can be a mix of national events and local meetings or all local meetings.

I took measures like weighing lambs, FEC testing, no problem at all. Others might be buying a certain number star ram, scanning the flock, there are a good few options.

    I don't find there's much paperwork.

As someone mentioned earlier, all depends on the group. I wasn't in a particularly good group I thought (now I know some will say that's my own fault for not pushing things, and that may be partly true)

Did you not have to buy a star ram in the first 2 years tho? I didn't need a ram, and wasnt going to buy one just to remain in my group, as I felt it wasn't worth it.

No one in our group had to buy a ram no.

    Really?
Maybe ye all had star rams already?

I thought that was task 1 in the terms and conditions - link below, page 8.

Anyone with a hill farm had the option of opting out of that task, which i did as well.

If you run all mountain sheep you could get an exemption as there would not have been enough 3 star rated rams. Otherwise the rule was you had to buy a 3star or above tam in year 1 or 2. Don't know how this will apply if you join late.

Between buying a ram, soil tests and teagasc fees I will only break even, but I thought the meetings were pretty helpful, and I got a 'free' ram and soil tests.

    Ah, didn't know that.

    That explains that then ;)
