I was just wondering if anyone has played in this open competition before? If so what did you think? I'm thinking of entering this year and curious to know if anyone had any comments (good or bad) about last year. Seems like good value and on some great courses but with the good prizes on offer I'm guessing the bandits come out in force!

It should probably actually be called the NorthEast open! Headfort New, Farnham Estate and Slieve Russell from the 3rd to the 5th July. Top prize is a trip to the 2016 Masters!

    thats an awesome prize!

I'd never be given permission to go play all 3 days though ;)

Think it'd be cheaper to just fly over to the masters. They say the masters prize is for a hole in hole... No mention of prizes apart from that.

Seems to be aimed at the tourist market. Prices in Sterling, USD and Canadian dollar but not in Euro!
Anyway with prices STARTING from £549 (€700) it's the far side of expensive.
(Accomm & Car Rental included but no pricing without either... Hence, the aimed at tourist assumption)

Yeah sorry - I was wrong about the masters prize, that's for hole in one. Prices I've seen are better value than those shown on that website which as you say seem to be aimed at tourists. Official prices said €170 for golf only. €250 for golf plus 1 night b&b or €320 for golf and 2 nights. Top prize is actually a custom fit set of titleist irons. Anyone played the Atlantic Coast Challenge either?

I played this last summer and it was nothing short of top class. If you want good good golf, a few pints each night and all the whilst having the feeling of been on tour, this is it. Slieve Russelll is a superb HQ for the weekend.

Yes some might say it's pricey but paid off over a few months it's fine. €320 I paid for full weekend package. The prizes put on for this are top class. Prizes went all the way down to 15/16 players with daily prizes awarded too. 5 handicapper won it. Suits low handicappers as you need good solid consistent golf over the 3 days.

Kevin Connolly does a superb job organising and the sponsors this year are bigger than ever so I expect the prize pool to follows suit. Worth a follow on Twitter for all the latest updates.
