    Hello,

Has anyone here switched from Eircom Fibre to Vodafone Simply Broadband and have any issue with the Vodafone service and the transition process?

    Thanks

I am curious about this as well. I am happy with the Eircom service, speed etc. but want to switch to Vodafone to save some money. A bit afraid to take the plunge in case the quality of my broadband goes down hill.

Yeah was looking at this myself, vodafone simply broadband looks a good offer for 35 euro a month, but the speed is the thing that concerns me is it as fast as eircoms.

Speed will be the same, not too sure about how smooth the process goes but would be interested in knowing.

I might do this in the coming few days. I noticed that Vodafone is raising their prices in March, but if you sign up before then, you can get locked into the €35 per month for 18 months and they won't raise that price. My Eircom is going up to €58.00 and I am getting rid of my landline to save a bit also ( I never use it). I will let you know how it goes...

    Hi all,

I'm in the same boat. Want to switch from Eircom eFibre to VDF Simple fibre. It is not that easy as it looks. Vodafone can't check what what speed my line ca support because I am Eircom client. I was asked to downgrade my Eircom eFibre to lower speed (up to 24mbps). Only then Vodafone can check my line. My contract with Eircom is out. But to downgrade I must singn to new contract... Ritght now I can't see any easy solution for this problem.

I done it a few months ago. Vodafone are defnitely better quality.

Had a few problems switching but I think that was mainly due to Eircom messing up my account and forcing me to change.

I created a thread documenting the situation it might be worth a read.

Transition for me was seamless. Get updates from Talk To...Vodafone forum here on boards, saves a lot of hassle. Great to be rid of the phone line charges.

Can someone tell me how to start that switch?

VDF tells me to downgrade my eFibre first to see if they can provide fibre service.
Eircom says that I must get another contract in order to downgrade.

Another question is: will VDF keep the same speed as Eircom?

I was thinking of doing the same switch: eFibre to VF Simply Broadband. I was met with the same conflicting information. In the end I switched to UPC.

When I was checking this out I got in touch with one of the reps on 'Talk to...Vodafone' here on boards. The rep organised a VF agent to ring me. The agent checked my line and told me I could get the same speed as eFibre 85Mbps+. Also if the speed was significantly less and they couldn't fix it, I could opt out of the contract.

Also during the phone call the agent said they would handle the whole transition from eFibre to VF.

Don't downgrade or cancel your eFibre a/c. Its VF responsibilty to sort this out.

Also check out the threads on 'Talk to...Vodafone' over the last few weeks.

    Hi
    Thanks for reply.
I was talking with another Vodafone sales agent. Right now he says that the best option would be stop Eircom service. Just tell them that I will get another supplier. Once I'm no longer an Eircom customer, then I will be able to join Vodafone without any problems. I don't mind if I will be cut from broadband for week or so. I still can use my mobile broadband.
I just wonder if this is the best option in my case. Once I told the vdf agent that I'm eFibre customer, there was a pause and "Oh,......I see......".

Has Vodafones prices risen like eircoms? Its now 38 euro a month. Someone mentioned 35 euro a few posts up.

I was told by vdf that after 1st of March the price will change.

So how does Vodafone compare to Eircom when it comes to traffic routing? Eircom seems to be really bad, try and download from the likes of Ubuntu images from HEAnet and compare to downloading from the Oxford mirrors.

I switched in theory. As I signed up for eircom, they didn't bother to install and then just switched me to a landline account. They then tried to force me keep said land line even though I only wanted broadband. So no broadband no land line right, Not according to the deceased minds at eircom.

Anyway comreg sorted. I'm at the end of the line and was expecting 14mbps down, and 1mbps up.

But got 25mbps down and 6mbps up. Street is new, so new cables into house.

Doesn't Vodafone have a 300GB pm "unlimlted" Limit? I think you pay €10 per 100GB over that.
Personally I didn't think I'd use anything like that but according to eircom I am using 5-600GB pm.

    Vodafones limit is no more.

    Vodafones limit is no more.

    not according to their website

    Vodafone Home terms and conditions
These terms are in addition to terms found at http://www.vodafone.ie/terms/services/#FixedLineBB and http://www.vodafone.ie/terms/services/#fibre and are applicable to all customers signing up to Vodafone Home contract from 4th July 2014.

Simply Broadband; A 300GB fair usage data allowance cap applies to Broadband usage within each billable month applies. This product does not support voice.

If a customer exceeds these fair usage policies then they will be charged in accordance with standard rates which can be found at http://www.vodafone.ie/home-phone-broadband/charges, which rates may vary from time to time and we reserve the right to terminate a contract.

Out of bundle broadband usage €10.00 per 100GB used over 300GB allowance.

Hello i switched from eircom to vodafone simply broadband 3 weeks ago when eircom raised the price of my contract the vodafone modem is naff so i use the eircom one,I find vodafones service faster i do not regret the switch at all,During the switching process i was left only 2 hours without service.

Note eircom tried to charge me a cancellation fee even though they knew they broke the contract,In the end they awarded me compensation. I told them i knew the practice but was very angry as im sure they have robbed people like this before.

    Hi Pocoyo

Did you swithced from Eircom eFibre to Vodafone fibre broadband? If so, did you must stop Eircom account first? Mine contract is over with Eircom and I still use their eFibre.
From today there is no 300GB cap on Vodafone broadband.

Due to the price increase which Vodafone have also had, I have just switched from them to Sky. My line is poor so I can't benefit from fiber speeds anyway so went for SKYs Broadband Unlimited with their Sky Talk packages and got basically the same as I had with Vodafone but save €120 in the first 12 months and then €60 a year thereafter.

The service actually seems to be provided by BT and it looks like SKY are retailing their services, which makes me very happy as I was never really happy with the forced change from BT to Vodafone as the service quality was never as good.

If you are thinking of SKY, I would suggest booking online as I ended up with a cheaper package than was offered when I had them ring me (their phone number is expensive unless you already have their phone package).

The switchover was painless. They sent me a new router/modem. I hooked it up when I received an email to say the service was live and then just had to enter the router password and I was up and away. Booked last Sunday and I was up and running Wednesday. Apart from the time taken to switch routers, there was no discontinuity of service. SKY notified Vodafone I had cancelled.

Don't do it unless you like calling Vodafone twice a week and accept crap broadband.

Did you told Eircom that you leaving?
    They need 30 days notice.

Did yo uhad an active eFibre when yo uchanged provider?

Sorry for many questions. I just want to know the correct procedure, because now eircom tells me one story and vodafone asks for something different.
    I'm confused...

I didnt give notice,no my area has efibre but the technicians have not came out to our houses yet. You will ring vodafone and they will contact eircom on your behalf how long ago did eircom inform you that they will be raising their price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 Len!n

I am free to leave eircom on any given time. Vodafone sales told me that they can't switch me in few easy steps. If had "up to 24mbps" (not efibre) then vodafone could sort things for me.
I'm not the only one stuck on this situation. Vodafone can't even check my phone line because I have active efibre right now.
I believe that I must cut Eircom, wait untill the line is not active and only then call Vodafone.
I will probably have a week without broadband.

I switched from e-fibre to Vodafone fibre few months ago. no need to cancel eircom first. The only downtime I experienced was due to a despatch error with my Vodafone modem. Am very happy with Vodafone speeds compared with what I had been getting.

    Thats what I want!
Why then vodafone sales say that i must leave the efibre first??? They can't start procedure because of that efibre. That's what I'm saying. Confused.
    Everyone tells different story...

+1 from efibre to vodafone simply broadband. All smooth and no difference in quality..Downtime was less than one hour.

Did you canceled your eircom first?

There is another important consideration when choosing ISP - how good is their router? You can negotiate a good package with your new ISP but if the router they supply is crap, then your reap life experience will be crap. The Vodafone HG658c is a terrible router.

Is it possible to use Eircom router?

The F1000 does adsl, vdsl (fibre) and ethernet WAN. It is reported to work fine on vodafone. It will work a lot better if you unlock it. Good luck!

Eircom sent a courier to my house to pick up my router when I cancelled my account.

I've heard bad things about the Vodafone router but mine has been solid so far.
