Bloodgate-GAA style

It’s a variation of Heineken Cup in 2009 bloodgate scandal

Just swap Harlequins for a Junior Z hurling team (lower than Junior A anyway) in a county final in 1 of the larger urban areas

My mate first turned up the semi final cos they were short numbers. Mid 40’s, played inter-county in his youth, all that long behind him, really prefers spending time with the kids camogie etc.
Never goes training, purely social hurling only over the last few years
He is Nr. 21 for the day. Somebody got the maths wrong & they brought along too many subs
They’re winning handy and all the subs are being rolled out to milk the occasion, greet the fans etc.
All 5 subs are on, my boy is the last man left, bainisteoir comes over with a capsule of blood – “Here boss, do you want to get on for the last 5 minutes?”

    What the fcuk!? Junior Z
You do get some right apes in charge of Junior teams, don’t you?
A lot of them are well meaning, decent types, keeping the show on the road, taking on the jobs that nobody else will touch etc but in all fairness..
Did he see this as a stepping stone to the U 16s ? Or the Junior B’s maybe. Have to keep everybody on board, especially the older lads..

Has anybody else got stories of deluded, over-zealous managers plumbing their trade in the depths of adult GAA?

For football, yes, ever since the black card came in. I'm not fully sure for hurling though, I would guess that it is still just 5 for county and club.

You're allowed bring six subs on.

    not in hurling.

and in any case, I'm nearly nearly sure you can only use 5 subs. if someone gets a blood injury you have to bring back on one of the players you took off.

It was only 3 subs when this lad started playing, it's hard to keep track

Seriously though, blood capsules ? at Junior
