Hi. I have seen some threads on here regarding turbos and the like. I am fairly new to cycling and want to be able to do an hour training or more at night in the garage/sitting room.

    I was looking at this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tacx-T2600-Motion-Folding-Cycletrainer/dp/B009SQJYW2/

Its £130, so not cheap. I dont want to go overboard on this, I basically want to get some training in the legs for the coming months, when the evenings are dark or the days are too wet & windy and I am looking for an excuse not to get out. It probably wont get a whole lot of use so don't want to go overboard.

Should I look at getting another tyre for this? I read bad reviews about the tacx training tyre. Is there a cheap way to get a training tyre & wheel so I dont have to change the tyre all the time?

Or is there a cheaper alternative to the above? Apart from toughen up!!

    Thanks/

That's not a bad option and you're unlikely to go wrong with Elite (or indeed Tacx)

Proper trainer tyres are ideal (I've used a Tacx for some time without problem), but a lot of people simply use normal tyres that are too worn for the road. Their life on turbos tends to become very shortened due to the heat generated, so I wouldn't be leaving a "good" tyre on - certainly not for any long efforts. Some people simply keep a spare wheel set up for the turbo. You can probably get a new rear wheel for less than €100, and it's worth checking out for 2nd hand options particularly if you are on a budget

    Thanks for that davidsatelle.

Presumably I would need the same 11/28 or can I simplify things in that regard. Sorry for stupid questions!
