Club membership family discount

My club doesn't offer any rates on membership for multiple family members. I seen one big club doing a great deal. What is the experience of others who have multiple members of the same family at the one club. Do you pay per family member or do you get a family rate?

If AAI registration is anything like the UK Athletics registration then there is zero benefit to the club in offering much of a discount to families, the same fees need to be paid per person to register them. It's only a couple of quid off that we give for a family as the club would be loosing money otherwise with most of the money going to the governing body.

We charge 250 for a family
(Adult membership is 60 euro, juvenile membership is 100 for first kid, then 80, then 60)
Juvenile membership includes competition entry fees, so there are a couple of families that might be costing us money when you add everything up...

So in the case of two adults would you just charge 120? This is my situation.

Maybe we should up our clubs fees. :)

Maybe! But it depends a lot on the club situation. Our juvenile fees are what they are because
    1. they include all competition entry. We would rather collect that upfront than chase parents for money at every event, and we can tell parents that once they pay the membership that's it, we won't be looking for more every couple of weeks.
    2. the juveniles train indoors and on a track, and those facilities have to be paid for

Adult membership is lower because most of the time adults will pay their own race entry, and don't use much in the way of facilities at the moment. Road running is cheap! It could be even lower, but we're building up funds for future development. In some clubs, the adult membership would subsidise the kids, but because of the way the club has developed we haven't gone that route.

Yep, we do charge differently for the juniors also. There are weekly subs for the adults for each session they turn up to, £1 for adults and 50p for kids. For the really young groups though we charge on a per term basis as it was far too much hassle to try and collect the money from them. The club pays for entries for certain events for everyone, like county/ regional/ national championships but we don't pay for the kids entries for other stuff.

I only just discovered that as a team manager I can claim petrol expenses to certain races as well, so was nice to come back from a weekend away and find a cheque for £100 through the door that I hadn't been expecting. Think it might mean that I'm expected to drive people to the National XC in London next month though, which isn't such a thrilling idea.

It's a very different world there in the big smoke, obviously.

We charge €25 per adult! At least we did last year.

And we cap family membership as well. I can't remember the exact details but anything over 2 kids is basically free IIRC.

We're cheap for adults, believe it or not, there are some that charge over 100.
But it depends on what you do for the money too. Adult registration and insurance with AAI is, what, 17 euro, plus a couple of hundred for club registration. If you are training on the roads or public parks, maybe the only expense worth mentioning is registration, and you can cover everything else with a couple of fundraisers through the year.

Thanks for the info Ray, its really useful to know. My immediate reaction was the same as Robin's, maybe with a bit more .

Our juvenile membership is considerably less, with significant discounts for additional family members. Our athletes do pay €1 at each session to cover facilities, they also pay race fees as they compete.

Do you think charging members for competition fees up front encourages participation?

We have no shortage of kids at training, but find it very hard to get decent numbers to compete. I am always interested in finding ways to encourage our juvenile athletes to participate more in competition.

For the OP, the club also offers discounts for adult members of the same family.

I think the main reason it's all upfront (has been since long before I joined) is that no-one wants to be going around at training or races with a bucket collecting money!

I don't know if it encourages participation or not. At least this way, the kids who don't compete, or don't turn up for track sessions, or ditch training for football matches, or because its raining, or there's something on telly... are effectively subsidising the kids who are there all the time. That's fine with me!

Our club fees are €60 for adults, €40 for 1st child, €30 for 2nd, €20 for 3rd and so on. Also we do a family rate for two adults and as many kids as you want for €125. Our senior fees are a little higher than some clubs in our County (but less than others) but we have more facilities to maintain such as a track, clubrooms etc.

    are there per-session fees too?

For the kids I honestly don't know (maybe €1 a week but I don't know how strictly it's collected). The senior athletes pay €2 euro a session for our weekly track session, but that's because we rent a County Council owned tartan track on a Wednesday evening.

Ours is €130 for an adult - a couple can get family membership for €150 or something...

I like RayCuns approach, cuts out a lot of the messing.
We're €55 per child and around €100 per adult, family membership is around €150.
We also collect €1 per night and charge for all race entries

It must be different in the capital alright, 80 euro per family here and 50 for individual.
