    hi all,
    thinking of building a cubicle shed with slatted tank for 35-40 dairy cows in west limerick. Any idea on what kind of money id be looking at for a tank to hold that much slurry (approx 280m3) and the shed, cubicles etc?? Alot of the posts here seems to be from 4-6 years ago so just wondering if theres much change in prices etc

    That is about an 80,000 gallon tank you are looking for so you would want about 90ft by 16ft 6 slat by 9 ft deep to be safe. roughly speaking you would be talking about 18/20k for tank alone then slats maybe 3k then the digging out of tank depends on if its greenfield or clearing buildings etc. the rule of thumb from teagasc is about €1500 per cow for everything but if you shop around you might do well especially next year when prices will drop and demand for building will be down. what type of system are you thinking of?

    I haven't done the math, but that sounds like a huge tank for 35/40 cows.

    Metres cubed to gallons you multiply by 220. So it's 61kgls.

    90 foot is 6 pens
    7 cows a pen is 42 cows
    He's right there at least
    And 14 or 16 slat to farmers preference

    I put in a 5 bay tank 4 months ago. 88 x 12 x 9. 19,500 euro all in. That includes digging out and slats. As far as I can remember it gives me storage of just under 59,200 gallons. This is enough for 45 dairy cows but when you take freeboard into account it leaves you with storage for 41 cows and well within all regs! I did calculations for zone b which is 18 weeks, not sure if Limerick is the same?

    I'm in North Kerry so prices should be similar but you would probably be able to get concrete cheaper being in Limerick! Be sure to get as many quotes as you can as I found there were massive variations!

    Thanks everyone, all helpful! I think teagasc recommendations are for around 1450 gallons/cow for 18 weeks so it would be somewhere around 60,000 gls id say. Might go with a 16ft slat with 2 rows of cubicles behind it. i can put cubicles on the slats in years to come then if needs be. I also have an open concrete slurry tank (47x52) so if that was roof in the future it wuld give extra storage aswell. Any idea of costs for a 5bay shed? (40ft wide, 90ft long & a canopy over feed face)

    .33 m3 per cow per week.
    18weeks= 5.94m3 per cow.
