    hi, any info sincerely appreciated.
I am thinking about surprising my husband around the end of nov '15 with a trip to Paris for his 50th birthday but at that time of year my finances will be low so i need to plan ahead. Would anybody know what a return flight from Dublin would likely cost flying with either Ryanair or Aer Lingus at that time of year and if there are sales covering travel at that time.
Also if anyone has personal recomendations of hotels, central, nice but not too expensive please.

I would budget 100 EUR per person return including transport into the city. The tricky decision is whether to fly to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on Aer Lingus or Air France or fly to Beauvais airport on Ryanair. The latter will require a 1 hour 15 minute bus ride into the city but if the flight is much cheaper it may be the better option. Plus CDG airport is always a mess in my experience. Another option to consider is to fly to CDG and take the train to Reims which is the middle of Champagne country. May be a memorable experience for a big birthday.

November is far off. I usually book flights 2-3 months in advance unless it is a busy holiday period or a sale comes up. Subscribe to the email newsletter for both airlines to get notified of sales. Set a reminder to check Skyscanner.ie every few weeks to monitor prices. As for hotels there are so many options. Try picking a neighborhood or two first. As long as you are willing to take the metro you can stay most anywhere. Good luck...

November is quite a while away and Ryanair haven't even launched their late Winter '15 schedule yet. Generally around 2 months to 6 weeks before hand is when you'll see the cheapest prices (summer flights to hot countries being an exception), although you can get flights at the minimum base price before hand at some cases. With Ryanair, in November you should be able to get flights around the €40 - €60 price point return if your dates are flexible.

ScottSF raises a good point about the different airports though. While the Ryanair flights will normally be cheaper, you need to add on €32 to their base price as this is the return shuttle cost price to Beauvais. Both Aer Lingus and Air France (operated by CityJet) fly into CDG airport which is much quicker and cheaper to get into central Paris from. I flew with Air France last year and it was the best option at the time (3 weeks before the flight). If Ryanair plus shuttle is only slightly cheaper then AL/AF then it might be worth going with CDG option but if flights + shuttle are €50+ cheaper then it would probably be worth taking that option.

Just keep an eye on prices and weigh up your options and remember to add on €32 in your head when looking at Ryanair prices.

I wouldn't be too familiar with flights in and out of Paris, however a few years back I brought the missus to Biarritz in s. France with Ryanair. Flew into Biarritz in 3rd week October. People were still on the beach and the city is located at foot of the Pyrenees, a beautiful location. We stayed in apartments operated by Pierre & Vacances which were central, and the airport was located no more than 7/8 miles away.. A bus brought us directly from airport to city centre. There was plenty to do, and city of Bayonne was also a short train ride away. Also the Basque region of Jean de Luz,,and other Spanish locations. At time of our visit I think Gloucester or Harlequins were also playing Biarritz in a rugby match and so there was also a goon vibe over the weekend. If you do go make sure to do the train trip up the Pyrenees mountains. Definitely Hemingway For Whom the bells toll scenery.
The Pierre Vacances website offers plenty of accommodation all over France at reasonable prices. Just make sure you cross check the reviews on TripAdvisor etc.

Air France frequently discount Dublin to Charles de Gaulle to 99 euro including bag, allocated seat and food and drink on board. If you're planning on traveling in November you can book any time you don't need to wait.

Ryanair is a no no for me on the Paris route, too much time and money wasted getting into the city.

From Shannon/Dublin to Paris with Ryanair its sometimes only 10e per person one way if you wait until closer to the date

I had no problems with the bus into Paris and Its a small airport. CDG is a nightmare. Flying to Paris this month with them for 26e return

I agree 100 each for Aer Lingus and a better selection on times to. Would also keep an eye on Transavia, these guys who begin flights to Paris Orly the most centrally located airport in France and you could get flights from around 80 each. Well worth it. No flights for november yet but keep an eye out in March/April.
