Triton T900pi shower - just the brushes or kaput?

Our Triton T900pi shower will only provide reasonable hot water at the highest settings (2 red bars and no 9 or 10). As a result the flow rate is reduced at this setting - and no doubt costing me a small fortune in electricity costs to heat the water!

I have taken the cover off and the inside of the shower is covered in what appears to be carbon dust. Is this normal as the shower is 11 years old or is this as a result of the brushes wearing down or has some other part "blown".

I have great flow rate at normal settings, cleaned the filter and have gone through the commissioning procedure but there is no change.

My gut says it is the brushes - just looking for a second opinion. Thanks in advance.

Don't think it's the brushes as they would just stop working. It is quiet normal to have a lot of black carbon dust after that length of time.

Lots of carbon dust would be expected after 11 years and yes, it is from the brushes. No. they are not available as spares. (I'd be happy to be proved wrong on that last part).

Sorry, can't help on the heat setting issue. Could be one leg of the element gone.

I bought a new one from homebase and swapped out the old one. easy enough job only issue was the copper pipe from shower to loft is flapping loose in the cavity behind shower but with someone in the loft to put downward pressure and screwdriver behind the pipe to prevent pipe pushing back I eventually got the "push" fitting to seat correctly.

One leg of the heating element gone makes absolute sense - I will keep the shower for spares obviously but is there a way the check the element to see if it has gone? And if so which one?

    Thanks for your help.

your heating can in the triton t900pi has 3 elements. One of them has blown. ANew shower was the best answer as a repair would have been over 150 Euro

An interesting observation following installation of the shower. To get the same temperature of water we have to have the shower up higher resulting in a poorer flow rate. Any idea why that should be? And how HomeBase/Triton would react if i raised the question with them

What make & model did you have originally?
What make & model do you now have?
Do you live in a high limescale area?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. You can get carbon brushes for the triton t900pi. You can still get the carbon brushes for the triton t90si & triton t90i.
