Burning Smell coming from dishwasher when on

    Hey Guys,

I bought a second hand slimline dishwasher about a year and half ago and has been working away since.

Last night there was a bit of a burning smell coming from the dishwasher while it was (not that strong, but noticeable) so we turned it off. I cleared the drain at the bottom of the dishwasher this morning and tried again but the smell is still there.

Its a Hotpoint SDW60, so it seems like its fairly old (2006 when this model came out)

I'd imagine there is something wrong with the pump, but im not sure.

Is it worth getting someone to take a look at it, or would I just be better off replacing it? Does anyone know kind of the ballpark price of getting someone to take a look at it?

There is a new one in Currys for €209 so I'm wondering would I just be better off just getting a new one.

    Thanks in advance

very hard to determine what is causing the issue without seeing it, wouldn't think its a motor, if you have a look by removing a side panel you might see whats causing the smell, check the wiring loom around the door edge

i had a bosch one that stopped ,tech came out to look at it and said it had overheated and buy another, stuff like bitumen on rear had shifted on machine.it was 8 yrs and he said end of life.

new models have now built in safety like loss of water pressue and heat sensors.

He wasn't much of a tech if he told you the softening of sound deadening material caused it to malfunction, actually the bosch machines of 8 years ago were better than the present ones.

he gave me a price in parts and labour but as it was a freestanding unit i decided time to get the inbuilt one for fitted kitchen,it would hardly wash the dishes.

We had similar issue with our now 10 year old Bosch. Pull out your dishwasher and check the plug isn't overheating that was the problem with ours. We moved it forward a little and all fine burning smell gone. no trouble before or since 10 years and going strong.
