You are screwed now because the tax has expired. Bad timing. Obviously you had more important matters on your mind but 5 minutes online on the 30th or 31st would have avoided the whole situation.

How old is the car? What sort of value? How much is the tax?

Go into the tax office and ask a manager. Perhaps they can accommodate, but probably not.

    It's a Rav 4 08 tax is around 200+ for 3months

I tried ringing them but guess what no answer,

Would I get away with leaving it off and having them put the car in my name so they will no longer be in debt on the TAx system and then Put it back on there name once I get the new tax book??

Only thing it's pushing the owners up by 2

on a relatively new car, you'l probably devalue the car by more than the price you'll save on tax by adding two owners. this may not be something you really mind if you plan on keeping the car for a long time to come however.

Exactly. That's why I asked about the car details.

You would be cutting off your nose to spite your face if you add 2 owners to the car for the sake of what, €200 for 3 months tax?

I went in to the tax office when mine was out by a month and declared it off road. The tax office guy was very helpful and obliging. I'm sure if you went in and explained the situation you should be ok. Hope they're well enough to enjoy the car soon
