Would a polo be a good choice to go for?

no, they aren't great. the fiesta or yaris would be much more reliable and just as cool/ uncool.

punto is another good choice, you'd get a very nice example with that budget.

I was looking at the fiestas but they bring my insurance up a lot compare to the other cars of a similar size engine. I learnt to drive in my mams yaris so was looking to get a different car.

Suzuki Swift is a very good car.Nippy, very reliable and the equal of yaris quality wise. For same money, you should be able to move up a year or two compared to yaris and fiesta where demand means they go for big money.

I'd suggest a corolla (I know it's probably 1.4) not sure if it absolutely has to be 1.2

I cannot imagine a Corolla being any cheaper for the OP to insure than a Fiesta.

Have been looking at a suzuki swift, Trying to keep an eye out for a cheapish but decent condition one.

Swift would be a good choice but they are 1.3 litre and I'd guess that insurance could be a little higher than the Fiesta as Ford parts are usually cheap and plentiful.

Outside of service items ford parts are far from cheap in my experience.

Well I found them reasonable when I had one but it was a few years ago.
