Caviar in aldi is now only 6.50 from 12.99! BBD is March 2015, seen it in palmerstown. Could be a nice gift for a dinner party or special occasion. .

Marketing at it's best again from aldi ☺ Almost as good as their frozen thawed fish they sell as fresh and have mackerel all year round when not even in season.

Slightly off topic but Mackeral season is a bit of a myth. They are shoals of them around our coast all year. There was a few dozen caught by anglers from a boat inside cork harbour last week and more caught in galway from a pier 2 weeks ago. A boat shooting a net could have a few thousand in an hour if they find them.
Fresh fish also doesnt have to be caught locally. Most "locally" caught fish is imported. Upto 3 years ago there was a flight from iceland into cork airport 5 nights a week offloading 2/3 huge cans of fish. This was then moved onto the fish shops and if anyone asked it was landed into ballycotton the night before. As far as i know the flight still comes into shannon now, and the fish is brought to cork by road.

Caviar for the masses? Is there nothing sacred anymore?

I will be rolling in my grave before I would allow Aldi caviar to be served to my guests.

I won't recommend anyone buy this. I don't even see what the appeal is, is it to make poor people feel wealthier buy selling them fish eggs that aren't even beluga.

plenty of "fresh" fish is frozen for a bit - reduces the amount of worms in it

Catching 20 mackerel inshore or off a pier with a rod isn't a real indicator of fishing around the country. By season with mackerel I meant more the few different times a year when it isn't caught, and yes this does happen.
Every fishmonger in the country had no fish last week only farmed bass and salmon really yet these supermarkets had "fresh" cod and mackerel. Small print on the back - Frozen at sea & may have been frozen.

Advertising standards in the UK obviously got onto them about the "cavier" but in Ireland they label things how they want, to deceive people still.

    Anyway topic for another day.

Not all fish has worms, time of year, areas being fished and seals have biggest impact on nematodes in fish. Something like gurnard will have worms 99% of the time.

Freezing doesn't reduce, stops more from developing but if your fish is fresh and landed quicker this won't be a problem.

    It beats cheese anyway.

I love seafood but caviar is absolutely rotten.

There was actually pasta and butter given out around the same time too - just missing a few bits and pieces for a decent meal :pac:

Fish and chips lost its appeal after watching this.

There is nothing wrong with those worms they are found in most fish. Cooking the fish renders them harmless!

Another reason to add to the long list of "why you should never eat fish".
